Job Summary

  • Manage day-to-day financial operations for NSM, including reconciliation, variance monitoring, and budget tracking.
  • Prepare and maintain financial reports such as budget vs. accruals, spending trends, analysis of overspending, and other ad hoc financial analyses.
  • Identify, investigate, and resolve budget issues, deficits, and spending irregularities.
  • Assist with the annual budget cycle, including gathering departmental submissions, validating data, and preparing summaries for leadership.
  • Conduct payroll-related actions including processing supplemental pay, coordinating salary reallocations, and troubleshooting payroll errors.
  • Lead the development, documentation, and implementation of financial and operational workflows.
  • Establish budgetary guidance and stewardship practices for departments.
  • Identify automation opportunities and build solutions using Power Automate, Microsoft Forms, Microsoft Lists, SharePoint, and CoPilot.
  • Create training materials, guidance documents, and SOPs for faculty and staff.
  • Support compliance and reporting requirements through the institution's budget reconciliation process.
  • Communicate financial guidance, process changes, and updates to departments and School leadership.
  • Train faculty and staff on financial and operational procedures.
  • Provide regular updates to School leadership on budget status, issues, and operational improvements.
  • Serve as a subject-matter expert on financial processes for departmental staff working under a dotted-line reporting structure.
  • Represent NSM on committees, task forces, and cross-campus working groups focused on budgeting, finance, and operational effectiveness.
  • Develop tracking tools, logs, dashboards, and reporting systems using Excel, SharePoint, and related Microsoft platforms.
  • Maintain documentation repositories, budget models, and financial datasets that support decision-making.
  • Monitor system workflows and respond to issues that disrupt financial operations.
  • Respond to urgent budget concerns, deficits, and other financial risks.
  • Troubleshoot payroll crises or errors in collaboration with departments and central offices.


Minimum Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related area.
- 3-5 years experience working with PeopleSoft or other complex ERP Accounting Systems.
- 5-7 years progressively responsible related financial/accounting/budgeting experience.
- 1-3 years capital accounting and/or budgeting experience.
An equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be considered.
Preferred Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree and seven years of related accounting and office management experience.
  • 3 years supervisory experience

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
To assist a school/department with a large volume of complex work processes, and to supervise administrative staff in the operation of the department, exercising a high degree of initiative and judgment. To provide financial oversight of a large, complex budget as well as provide financial reports and statistics as needed.

The Senior Financial Analyst supports the financial and operational infrastructure of the School of Natural Sciences and Mathematics ( NSM) by overseeing day-to-day financial activities, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and effective workflow management across all budget and finance functions. This position plays a key role in sustaining internal controls, maintaining institutional financial integrity, and supporting NSM's annual budgeting, reconciliation, and payroll processes.
The Senior Financial Analyst leads process improvement initiatives related to financial operations, including developing workflows, documentation, standard operating procedures, and automation opportunities using tools such as Power Automate, Microsoft Forms, Microsoft Lists, SharePoint, and CoPilot. The role provides guidance to departments on budgetary practices, communicates process and policy changes, and trains faculty and staff on new procedures. While this position does not have direct supervisory responsibilities initially, it will maintain dotted-line oversight of departmental staff whose work is tied to financial processes.
This position represents NSM in meetings, committees, and cross-campus working groups focused on finance, budgeting, and process improvement. The Senior Financial Analyst exercises a high degree of autonomy and judgment in identifying and resolving budget issues, troubleshooting payroll concerns, developing financial analyses, and making recommendations to leadership to ensure sustainable and responsible use of resources.
