Job Summary
The Access Control Technician is responsible for installing, servicing, and maintaining commercial access control systems and related security hardware. This role requires expertise in a wide range of access control technologies and strong troubleshooting skills to ensure reliable system performance.
Job Responsibilities
- Install and configure access control hardware, including maglocks, strikes, card readers, and panels.
- Perform maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on access control systems and related security devices.
- Service and troubleshoot IP and analog cameras, as well as Network Video Recorders (NVRs).
- Configure and maintain access control system interfaces, including credential management, access levels, and door schedules.
- Utilize basic IP networking skills to configure devices such as switches, routers, and port forwarding.
- Install and terminate low-voltage cabling (e.g., 22/4, 20/4, CAT 5/E, CAT 6) for security systems.
- Organize and dress cables from IT closets to device locations, ensuring clean and efficient cable management.
- Build and maintain security equipment racks and manage cable pathways (J-hooks, D-rings), ensuring proper labeling.
- Interpret blueprints and layouts for installation and service tasks.
- Communicate professionally with clients and team members, maintaining a high level of customer service.
- Adhere to safety protocols, including proper PPE usage and maintaining a hazard-free job site.
Job Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in access control system installation and maintenance.
- Proficiency with access control platforms such as Lenel, Avigilon, Verkada, Premise, and Wisenet.
- Experience with IP addressing and network troubleshooting (1+ year preferred).
- Manufacturer or product certifications in security systems (preferred).
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- OSHA 10 certification (preferred).
- Scissor/Boom Lift certification (preferred).
- Physical ability to work on ladders or lifts, in confined spaces, and lift up to 50 pounds (move up to 75 pounds).
- Must possess basic hand tools (multi-bit screwdriver, tape measure, snips, needle-nose and channel lock pliers, punch-down tool, flashlight), steel/composite toe boots, gloves, and a tool pouch.
Work Experience
- 3+ years of experience in commercial access control installation and service.
- Familiarity with CCTV systems and IP networking.
