Principal Quality Engineer

Itron is seeking a Principal Quality Engineer for our West Union, SC facility. This position will report to the Senior Quality Manager and work with factory quality managers and the global quality organization to ensure effectiveness of the quality management system and drive continuous improvement. The role is also responsible for coordinating internal and external audits, managing the site's calibration program and leading site-wide quality initiatives.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Manage a team of 3-4 associates
• Oversee compliance and continuous improvement of the ISO9001-based quality management system. This includes coordinating the implementation of new & revised global QMS processes, developing and improving local QMS processes and providing related training.
• Support Itron's internal audit program and provide coordination and support for 3rd party quality audits and customer audits. This includes supporting audit follow-up activities such as root cause analysis and corrective actions.
• Provide leadership in quality-related initiatives, including projects to improve key quality processes.
• Oversee and improve the process for controlling nonconforming materials, driving reduction in MRB inventory as well as efficiency and effectiveness of the MRB process.
• Manage the site's calibration program, including both in-house and 3rd party calibrations.

Required Skills & Experience

• Bachelor degree in engineering or related technical field
• 5 years of relevant experience in quality management systems
• Strong knowledge of quality management systems, including
  • ISO9001
  • QMS auditing
  • Control and improvement of QMS processes & documentation
• Experience leading teams and projects to improve quality-related processes
• Excellent communication, organization & leadership skills
• Good understanding of 8D problem solving methodology
• Knowledge and experience with measurement systems analysis (Gage R&R), calibration methodology, and maintaining calibration records

Preferred Skills & Experience

• Experience with Oracle and/or other ERP systems
• Experience with SQL and Power BI
• ISO9001 auditor certification or ASQ Certified Quality Auditor
• ASQ Certified Manager of Quality & Organizational Excellence
