Overview The Senior Engineer under general guidance directs or performs specific engineering assignments of major size or complexity and makes independent decisions on engineering problems and methods. The Senior Engineer establishes specifications for contracts, review bids, and may make or approve field design changes. On station assignments the Senior Engineer may represent Central Engineering in the resolution of engineering problems and in coordinating work to be done. The primary role for this position will be to support the dielectric system pumping and cooling plants and associated projects.
Responsibilities
Core Responsibilities
- Main priority will be the Pressurization and Cooling Plants of the companys dielectric system. These systems are critical to the function of the electric transmission system.
- Conceives, plans, designs, solutions or alternatives of new projects, including technical and economic evaluations, specification preparation, feasibility studies and long-term planning.
- Serves as a sponsor engineer, meets with other departments in the design, estimating, erection, testing, maintaining and supplying consultation for the installation of mechanical & control and instrumentation equipment.
- Prepares appropriations for sponsored projects. Prepares and directs the preparation of specifications and the development of system design for the installation and repair of mechanical equipment, computers and control and Instrumentation equipment.
- Experience and expertise in application and development of technical principles and practices associated with engineering systems is required
- Prepares engineering sketches required to modify systems, monitors the implementation by Company forces. Initiates requests for funding of projects.
- Provides design improvement recommendations in connection with dielectric plant systems.
- Reviews with user groups the preliminary engineering drawings and specifications released for comments.
- Will coordinate projects with users and construction and provide field support. Monitor and report on project status, schedules and costs.
Qualifications
Required Education/Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering and 8 years of related work experience. or
- Master's Degree in Engineering and 6 years of related work experience.
Preferred Education/Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering and 8 years of related work experience in Mechanical process systems.
Relevant Work Experience
- Demonstrated experience in the design and application of engineering principles within the relevant area of expertise. Experience must meet the qualifications acceptable to the New York State Board for Professional Engineering (P.E.) examination, required.
- Computer proficiency in Microsoft office, required.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, required.
- Strong Interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with personnel on all levels, required.
- Supervisory experience of professional and union employees, preferred.
Licenses and Certifications
- Driver's License Required
- Professional Engineer (PE) Preferred
Physical Demands
- Ability to respond to system emergencies
- Able to work in all weather conditions, i.e. excessive heat and/or cold
- Work in, under, and on top of all types of company vehicles and/or equipment
- Ability to work in adverse conditions that include, noise, confined spaces, and high elevations
- Ability to climb ladders and stairs
- Ability to work in inclement weather and adverse conditions (i.e., excessive heat, cold, noise, confined spaces)
- Stand, walk, lift, climb, bend, kneel, stoop, and/or reach for the duration of the workday
- Ability to travel to company locations to work on storm restoration and heat contingencies
- Wear necessary Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), i.e. fire-retardant clothing and safety harnesses
Additional Physical Demands
- The selected candidate will be assigned a System Emergency Assignment (i.e., an emergency response role) and will be expected to work non-business hours during emergencies, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
