Tax Manager, Digital Transformation & Innovation

Job Summary:

We are seeking a Tax Manager to support requirements definition and user experience for the Partnership Tax Technology Platform. This role works with the BDO Tax Practice and clients to gather and document partnership tax business requirements and inform product design. The ideal candidate brings five or more years of relevant experience, including three or more years in partnership tax, and a background in tax technology. This role manages business analysts to ensure delivery of requirements that enable innovative partnership tax solutions.

Key responsibilities include:



  • Implementing change management initiatives, ensuring smooth adoption of new and existing processes and technologies
  • Spearheading the deployment of firm-developed and third-party Tax technology tools
  • Overseeing the creation of comprehensive training materials and delivering engaging training sessions on firm-standard technologies
  • Collaboration with technology product and development teams to define product requirements for new Tax tools and solutions
  • Evaluation of tax processes to achieve maximum efficiency and accuracy while identifying bottlenecks and implementing solutions that streamline operations
  • Providing ongoing support to our Tax practice, acting as a point of contact for technology-related queries and challenges



Job Duties:

A Tax Manager, DT&I coordinates with the tax practice and DT&I team to create and implement technology tools to meet the needs of our clients and professionals. A Tax Manager will manage one or multiple products or projects, with responsibilities including:

General



  • Creates and executes project plans to deliver on tax practice initiatives
  • Monitors project progress and performance indicators, providing input to senior staff to help in improvement efforts
  • Executes on project communications, helping to keep timelines and tasks organized and clear for team members
  • Supervises and/or executes the workflow process, helping to motivate team members and achieve project goals
  • Supports the creation and/or delivery of training related to projects/products, as needed
  • Provides suggestions for process improvements to senior staff, focusing on enhancing efficiency within their scope of work
  • Engages with other departments as needed to support process and communication improvements
  • Assists in gathering and analyzing information on market and competitor trends to provide support to senior staff and Tax Leadership
  • Serves as a solution architect in applying firm standard solutions to client-specific facts and circumstances, as needed
  • Participates in risk management and quality assurance efforts
  • Other duties as required


Project Management



  • Exhibits solid project management skills and is learning to handle projects of moderate complexity
  • Coordinates project tasks and supports senior team members in managing multiple projects, ensuring adherence to project management standards
  • Contributes to strategy discussions and methodology development for project work, under the direction of more experienced team members
  • Assists with risk identification and supports quality assurance processes within project scopes
  • Aids in monitoring project timelines and budgets, developing skills in stakeholder management to meet project objectives
  • Collaborates with internal teams and may interact with external vendors to gain insights necessary for project tasks
  • Maintains communication with team members and may liaise with vendors to collect project-related information as needed
  • Participates in the preparation of business cases, learning to analyze and present data to justify project investments


Stakeholder Management



  • Contributes to the execution of the product/project roadmap, ensuring alignment with the overall tax practice strategy and addressing specific needs
  • Communicates the value of products and initiatives to the Digital Tax & Innovation (DT&I) team, highlighting benefits and alignment with project goals
  • Provides comprehensive feedback to team members, addressing both areas of strength and opportunities for improvement to foster professional growth
  • Engages in initiatives aimed at enhancing the skills and capabilities of the team, promoting a culture of continuous learning and development

  • Other duties as required


Supervisory Responsibilities:



  • Acts as a direct supervisor to team members, as assigned
  • Acts as a career advisor, as assigned
  • Provides coaching and support to all project team members
  • Identifies where resource or team skills gaps exist that might interfere with meeting project objectives and timelines



Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Education:



  • Bachelor's degree required, focus in in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Computer Science or Information Systems preferred
  • Master's degree in Accounting, Taxation or J.D., preferred


Experience:



  • A combined five (5) years of tax and technology experience, of which a minimum of two (2) years of tax experience, required


Software



  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office suite, specifically Excel, PowerPoint and Word, required
  • Experience with Tax software, such as ONESOURCE, GoSystem, CorpTax, SurePrep, and/or CCH Axcess, preferred
  • Experience with Azure DevOps, preferred


License/Certifications:



  • CPA, JD, EA, PMP, or other relevant certification, preferred


Other Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:



  • Self-starter with the ability to work effectively both independently and in multi-disciplinary teams
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong analytical, and critical thinking skills
  • Intermediate understanding of process design and improvement including lean-six sigma principles
  • Ability to develop relationships with tax leadership, professionals and others across the firm
  • Proactive mindset and ability to think ahead and identify and anticipate problems before they arise
  • Ability to work within a deadline-driven environment and handle multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ability to design and implement solutions that are deployable at scale
  • Foundational-level facilitation skills
  • Foundational knowledge of US direct and/or indirect taxation, required; intermediate knowledge



Individual salaries that are offered to a candidate are determined after consideration of numerous factors including but not limited to the candidate's qualifications, experience, skills, and geography.

National Range: $105,000 - $120,000
NYC/Long Island/Westchester Range: $105,000 - $120,000
