Overview

Come join us at Con Edison as an Instructor where you'll play a key role in shaping a skilled, motivated workforce. In this role, you'll design and deliver impactful training programs that drive technical excellence, safety, productivity, and customer focus. You'll lead the development of digital learning tools, create engaging curriculum and materials, and evaluate trainee performance for critical qualifications. As a trusted advisor, you'll collaborate with business partners and participate in technical committees to ensure our training stays ahead of industry standards.

Responsibilities

Core Responsibilities
  • Ensure all assigned courses have current learning objectives, course outlines, instructor guides, student manuals, training aids, tests, media, and centralized document control.
  • Supervise and conduct training for employees, contractors, and customers in the skills required to perform their jobs.
  • Coordinate with field personnel to align training with operations, including active participation in Training Effectiveness Committees (TECs), field visits, and special projects.
  • Update and maintain eTrain and Learning Management System (LMS) records.
  • Evaluate student performance for training, testing, position placement, title changes, and advancement.
  • Maintain inventory of materials required to conduct training.
  • Participate in the development of Digital Learning Tools, for example eBook, eLearning, Micro Learning, videos, VR and AR.
  • Stay informed of operating incidents, accidents, procedures, lessons learned, and related issues, and communicate applicable information to training staff and students.
  • Maintain housekeeping for assigned rooms and areas and ensure compliance requirements are met, as assigned, for example fire extinguisher inspections and TLCs Hazardous Energy Control Procedure.
  • Participate in cross-functional teams and industry groups to stay current on changes in training, technical disciplines, and regulatory requirements.
  • Act as a subject matter expert in the development and administration of testing when needed.
  • Ensure fair and accurate scoring of tests using manual processes and following corporate procedures and maintain confidentiality of test results and recommendations.

Qualifications

Required Education/Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree and 2 years of relevant work experience in one or more areas of Central Operations including Substation Operations, Construction, Steam Operations and/or Facilities.
  • Associate's Degree and 4 years of relevant work experience in one or more areas of Central Operations including Substation Operations, Construction, Steam Operations and/or Facilities.

  • High School Diploma/GED and 5 years of relevant work experience in one or more areas of Central Operations including Substation Operations, Construction, Steam Operations and/or Facilities. or
Relevant Work Experience
  • Have at least 2 years of relevant work experience in Central Operations, including Substation Operations, Construction, Steam Operations, or Facilities, required.
  • Demonstrate excellent oral and written communications skills, required.
  • Demonstrate strong presentation and facilitation skills, required.
  • Demonstrate high energy level, flexibility and the ability to handle multiple tasks and assignments while working under tight deadlines, required.
  • Demonstrate strong organizational, administrative, decision making and interpersonal skills with attention to detail and a solid teamwork orientation, required.
  • Maintain a professional demeanor and have the ability to deal with all levels of management, regulatory agencies, union personnel and customers, required.
  • Have hands-on experience with computer software programs, including Microsoft Office products, required.
  • Demonstrate ability to incorporate new and innovative technology to enhance processes, required.
  • Be familiar with curriculum development or instructional design, preferred.
  • Have experience with eTrain and TLC Portal, preferred.

Physical Demands
  • Ability to push, pull, and lift up to 40 pounds
  • Sit or stand to answer a phone for the duration of the workday
  • Sit or stand to use a keyboard, mouse, and computer for the duration of the workday
  • Possess manual dexterity and the ability to use hands for the duration of the workday
  • Ability to stoop, bend, reach, and kneel throughout the workday
  • Stand to use/operate office equipment for the duration of the workday
  • Ability to read small print and symbols
Additional Physical Demands
  • The selected candidate will be assigned a System Emergency Assignment (i.e., an emergency response role) and will be expected to work non-business hours during emergencies, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Must be able and willing to travel within Company service territory, as needed.
