What to Expect
Tesla is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to join our Construction Design Team at the Gigafactory in Austin, Texas. The ideal candidate will specialize in low and medium voltage industrial and manufacturing power systems design and demonstrate a strong sense of ownership and pride in their work. This role requires excellent collaboration skills to work effectively with other engineering disciplines, as well as maintenance and operations teams. Strong communication skills and a commitment to mentoring younger engineers are essential.

What You'll Do
  • Collaborate with construction, facilities, operations, and maintenance teams throughout the electrical design process, with a focus on reliability, maintainability, and operability
  • Develop comprehensive construction design deliverables
  • Interpret and implement NFPA-70 (NEC) standards for low and medium-voltage power system design and installation
  • Manage EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) firms through all phases of design development, execution, and handover
  • Address RFIs (Requests for Information) and resolve design changes during construction
  • Collaborate with other engineering disciplines and construction team to ensure proper design sequencing while managing multiple design scopes at once
  • Develop and maintain site standards for electrical design practices and installations, adhering to industry codes

What You'll Bring
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience
  • 7 years of industrial design experience in refining, chemical or manufacturing
  • Advanced knowledge of industrial and facilities electric infrastructure design, particularly at 5kV and 480V levels
  • Extensive familiarity with electrical maintenance codes and safe work practices, including: NFPA 70 (NEC), NFPA 70E, IEEE 1584, NFPA 497
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit drafting software.
  • Strong ability to multi-task, prioritize, and thrive in a fast-paced environment
  • Effective communication skills to convey information concisely to management and team members
