Position Overview

The Vice President of Digital and Data Engineering will lead the company's enterprise data strategy, architecture, and engineering initiatives to enable data-driven decision-making at scale. In addition, this leader will oversee the digital product management function, driving the development of modern data platforms and digital solutions that foster innovation, operational efficiency, and business transformation.

The ideal candidate is a strategic, forward-thinking executive who combines deep technical expertise in data engineering with strong product leadership acumen. This individual will build and sustain a robust, high-quality data foundation that supports advanced analytics, machine learning, and AI-enabled decision-making. Through visionary leadership, the Vice President will unite data engineering excellence with digital innovation-accelerating the company's ability to transform data into actionable insights and competitive advantage.

Essential Duties

  • Define and execute a modern enterprise data strategy aligned with business goals and digital transformation priorities.
  • Partner with the VP of Artificial Intelligence and other technology and business leaders to design and deliver scalable data pipelines, platforms, and architectures that enable advanced analytics and AI innovation.
  • Oversee the engineering, modernization, and integration of enterprise data systems and digital tools, ensuring high availability, security, and performance.
  • Drive adoption of modern engineering practices, including data mesh, cloud-native development, and continuous delivery frameworks.
  • Establish standards for data quality, governance, and accessibility to ensure trusted data across all domains and use cases.
  • Partner with scientific, clinical, and commercial leaders to ensure digital and data capabilities accelerate research, optimize operations, and enhance customer experiences.
  • Represent the Digital and Data Engineering function as a key member of the IT leadership team, contributing to enterprise-wide technology strategy and investment planning.
  • Effectively manage, support, and guide your team, including, but not limited to delegating tasks and responsibilities, assessing employee performance and providing helpful feedback and training opportunities.
  • Consistent demonstration of exceptional leadership qualities, including, but not limited to the ability to attract and retain the best team, foster a culture of high performance, lead with integrity, humility, accountability, and courage, and set a clear vision to energize teams towards the future.

  • Ability to travel 10% of working time away from work location. May include overnight/weekend travel.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in a field related to essential duties; or Associates Degree and 2 years of relevant experience; or High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) and 4 years of relevant experience.
  • 18 years of progressive experience in data and software engineering, digital platforms, or enterprise technology leadership.
  • Proven track record of delivering large-scale digital and data transformation initiatives in complex, regulated, or global environments.
  • Expertise in modern cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP), distributed data systems, and contemporary data engineering frameworks.
  • Strong knowledge of AI/ML data pipelines, metadata management, and MLOps best practices.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and collaboration skills with experience influencing senior executives and boards.
  • Experience managing multi-functional engineering teams and vendor/partner ecosystems.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform the essential duties of the position with or without accommodation.

Salary Range:

$384,000.00 - $672,000.00

The annual base salary shown is for this position located in US - WI - Madison on a full-time basis. In addition, this position is bonus eligible.
