Job Summary

As an Instructional Coach for Phoenix College Preparatory Academy (PCPA), you will own the responsibilities of leading and partnering with teachers to strengthen instructional practice and improve student learning outcomes. Primary responsibilities of the role include, classroom visits, data analysis, modeling lessons and delivering feedback that is aligned to Arizona State standards. Additionally, the instructional coach will facilitate grade level and department meetings, oversee state mandated testing administration (including training of staff for proper administration of state testing) and collaborate with administration to align instructional practices for the purpose of continuous school improvement. Lastly the instructional coach will create and deliver professional development sessions designed to improve instruction practices and increase student achievement.

Essential Functions

45% - Instructional Coaching and Teacher Support
Provides sustained, job embedded coaching to teachers through observation cycles, feedback conversations, and collaborative planning. Models high impact, research based instructional strategies in classrooms to support teacher growth and improve student learning. Facilitates Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) by guiding teams through data analysis, instructional planning, and collaborative inquiry. Supports curriculum alignment by helping teachers unpack standards, design rigorous lessons, and implement district adopted instructional frameworks. Guides teachers in using formative and summative data to adjust instruction, differentiate for diverse learners, and implement targeted interventions. Builds teacher capacity by fostering reflective practice, supporting goal setting, and promoting continuous professional learning.

35% - State Testing Coordination and Compliance
Oversees all aspects of state testing administration between Phoenix College Preparatory Academy (PCPA) and Gateway Early College High School, including scheduling, communication, and coordination of testing environments. Ensures full compliance with state and district testing policies, security protocols, and reporting requirements. Trains test administrators, proctors, and support staff to ensure consistent, accurate, and ethical test administration. Manages secure testing materials, including inventory, distribution, collection, and documentation. Coordinates testing accommodations and supports for students with IEPs, 504 plans, and English language learners to ensure equitable access. Serves as the primary campus liaison for district assessment personnel and communicates testing expectations clearly to staff, students, and families.

15% - Data Analysis and Schoolwide Improvement
Leads campuswide data reviews to identify trends, strengths, and areas for improvement across grade levels and content areas. Supports intervention planning by helping teachers and teams use data to identify student needs, monitor progress, and adjust instructional strategies. Collaborates with administrators to align instructional practices with school improvement goals and accountability measures. Helps develop and refine systems for progress monitoring, tiered interventions, and instructional decision making. Provides staff with data tools, training, and support to build collective capacity for using data effectively.

5% - Other Duties as Assigned

Minimum Qualifications

Master's degree from a regionally accredited institution in education, educational leadership or related field and three (3) years of teaching experience at the high school level.

Desired Qualifications
  1. Three (3) years of Experience with Curriculum Instruction or Educational Leadership in a preparatory environment working with high risk youth.
  2. Five (5) years of successful teaching experience.
  3. Five (5) years of experience with Arizona State Standards.
  4. Three (3) years of experience with research-based instructional teaching strategies.
  5. Three (3) years of experience working with underserved students.
  6. Three (3) years of experience with and utilizing student assessment tools.
  7. Three (3) years of experience with State Testing Compliance and diagnostic assessments


Special Working Conditions

MCCCD does not sponsor individuals for any type of work visa.
Posses valid state teacher's certificate.
*Must be able to obtain or possess an Arizona IVP Class one Fingerprint Clearance Card (Level 1) prior to hire date.

Positions in this class typically require: keyboarding, grasping, kneeling, stooping, crouching, pushing, pulling, lifting, standing, walking, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.

Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects including the human body.

Working Conditions: Work is routinely performed in an indoor environment, within an office or a classroom. Work may involve the performance of office tasks, utilizing a computer or reading various documents or forms, and may also involve physical movement within the school environment in order to assess school conditions and facilities, or to perform observations. The High School environment may involve moderate noise level and include moderate exposure to airborne particles such as dust or fumes associated with the maintenance or operation of a school facility. Some occasional or limited tasks may involve work outdoors, including exposure to a variety of weather conditions, for typically short durations, including rain, wind, dust, cold temperatures, and extreme desert heat. Some work tasks may require that an incumbent be on their feet, standing, or walking while performing duties, for a considerable portion, if not all, of a work shift. Work often involves close proximity to others. May be exposed to persons in disagreeable, uncooperative, and/or emotional states.
