Description

Acara Solution is seeking a Technical Writer for our client, located in Manassas, VA.

  • Utilizing your knowledge of the Submarine Fire Control Weapons System, you'll assist in defining, reviewing, and analyzing system requirements for enhancements/modifications for supportability by providing input to project/program plans and deliverables.
  • Additionally, this position will assist in the review, development, and modification of procedures and products for one or more ILS functions.

  • We are looking for a mid-level Engineering Support Specialist.
  • Review and provide feedback on draft and preliminary maintenance documents and technical manuals.
  • Validate test procedures during testing events, both in the lab and on submarines, sometimes requiring shift work.
  • Create operations and maintenance procedures for technical manuals and training documents.
  • Employs Instructional Design practices to design curriculum to support operations and maintenance training.
Job Requirements
Required Skills / Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Technology with 4 years of experience.
  • Minimum 6 years of experience in helping develop and deliver support products for the US Navy, specifically the Common Weapons Launcher (CWL)/Multi Tube Weapons Simulator (MTWS).
  • Minimum 4 years of experience in the submarine Launchers fleet combat system, AN/BYG-1.
  • Minimum 4 years of experience in using S1000D to develop and publish Interactive Electronic Technical Manuals.
  • Minimum 4 years of experience in developing Navy training documents and materials.
  • Minimum 4 years of experience in the Navy.
Preferred Skills / Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree.
  • Have good communication skills.
  • Qualified Master Training Specialist.
  • Ability to prepare documentation for delivery in a variety of formats (.doc, .PDF, HTML, and XML/SGML-tagged online and IETM).
  • Familiarity with military documentation using current DoD specifications and standards, including, but not limited to, MIL-STD-3001, MIL-STD-38784, MIL-STD-24784, and MIL-STD 40051-2C.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Word and Excel a must), XMLSpy, MS Visio, and PowerPoint.
  • Good organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of military/commercial requirements/specifications.
  • Familiarity with Linux/Unix systems.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and work well under pressure.
  • Proven conflict management skills.
  • Demonstrated skills consistent with a team-based work environment.

Additional Information:

  • Upon offer of employment, the individual will be subject to a background check and a drug screen.
  • Travel to support Navy customers in a lab-based environment.
  • Willingness to travel and perform duties onboard naval vessels.
  • In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required employment eligibility verification form upon hire.
  • Active Secret Clearance listed.
