For over 20 years, Smartsheet has helped people and teams achieve-well, anything. From seamless work management to smart, scalable solutions, we've always worked with flow. We're building tools that empower teams to automate the manual, uncover insights, and scale smarter. But more than that, we're creating space- space to think big, take action, and unlock the kind of work that truly matters. Because when challenge meets purpose, and passion turns into progress, that's magic at work, and it's what we show up for everyday.

The Principal Business Operations Manager is the primary architect of our leadership team's operating system. This is a high-impact role designed for a disciplined operator who finds inspiration in the tactical mechanics that drive a company forward. You will be responsible for orchestrating the rhythms and routines-from CEO staff meetings to Board prep-that ensure our most senior leaders remain aligned, accountable, and focused on execution. Based in our Bellevue office, this role is inherently in-person to ensure direct, day-to-day proximity to the CEO and leaders of the Business Operations Team. You aren't just managing rhythms; you are ensuring that the company's highest-priority work is delivered with precision and that our strategic narrative is felt across every level of the organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Meeting Orchestration: Drive the agenda and "meeting discipline" for the CEO Staff and Senior Leadership meetings. You will ensure these sessions are focused on high-impact decision-making rather than just status updates.
  • Accountability Tracking: Own the lifecycle of action items from leadership sessions, ensuring clear ownership and timely follow-through across the organization.
  • Quarterly Business Reviews (QBRs): Design and manage the QBR process, facilitating a consistent framework for departments to report on performance and pivot strategies where necessary.
  • Board Preparation: Act as the project lead for Board of Directors meeting cycles. You will instill rigorous discipline around workback plans and execution timelines to ensure all materials are high-quality and delivered ahead of schedule.
  • Narrative Building: Collaborate closely with the Internal Communications team to translate operational milestones into a cohesive, inspiring storyline for our global employee base.
  • Alignment: Ensure that what is happening in business operations is effectively communicated (where appropriate) to keep the organization aligned with our core mission.
  • VCP Support: Establish and maintain the routines required to support the Senior Director of the Value Creation Plan, ensuring we have the mechanisms in place to drive execution.
  • Agile Problem Solving: Lead high-priority, "strike-team" style projects as they arise, often tackling ambiguous challenges that don't have a natural home.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Multifaceted Business Perspective: 8-10+ years of professional experience with a track record of exposure to multiple business functions or high-priority cross-functional projects. Prior experience working directly on projects with a CEO is preferred.
  • Executive Navigator: You have spent significant time in the "inner circle" of leadership teams. You possess the gravitas to navigate high-stakes environments and the confidence to hold senior leaders accountable to timelines and meeting discipline.
  • Tactical Architect: You are a strategic thinker who is energized by the "how." You find professional inspiration in building the frameworks, workback plans, and routines that turn a leadership vision into an operational reality.
  • High-Velocity Output: You are seasoned in high-pressure, fast-paced environments where "good enough" isn't an option. You have the stamina to manage the intense cycles of Board preparations and Quarterly Business Reviews without losing focus.
  • Master of Synthesis: You can sit in a room of functional experts, digest various viewpoints, and synthesize them into a single, cohesive storyline or a clear set of actionable next steps.
  • Operational Discipline: You don't just "attend" meetings; you orchestrate them. You have an inherent need for order and a proven ability to instill rigor into ambiguous processes.
  • Presence & Proximity: You are committed to being in-person at our Bellevue office. You recognize that the nuances of executive alignment and the speed of our operations require being physically present with the leaders you support.
