Nitsch is a mid-sized engineering firm and industry leader in green infrastructure, resilience planning, and sustainable stormwater management. With decades of experience, we offer targeted analysis methods such as visioning, risk assessments, impervious surface reduction, and stormwater modeling to meet our clients' needs. Alongside Resilience Planning and Design, we provide site/civil, transportation, structural engineering, survey, and GIS services for developers, architects, universities, and government agencies.
We are currently looking to hire Civil Site Engineering Interns in our Mid-Atlantic Regional offices (Richmond and Washington DC) as well as our Massachusetts offices (Boston, Worcester, and Lawrence) for Summer 2026.
Purpose of Position : Applies engineering fundamentals to design of civil engineering systems. This is a developmental position in which the Intern learns to apply theoretical knowledge to practical application.
Typical Duties :
  • Performs CAD drafting and simple design tasks using current computer software.
  • Practices increasing proficiency in the use of a computer for design and CAD applications.
  • Performs routine design tasks such as drainage area calculations, pipe sizing, site layout, grading, and utility design. Works on portions of projects on a task by task basis.
  • Practices solving engineering problems using experience, judgment, and education, but is expected to ask for assistance when needed.
  • Prepares quantity and cost estimates when requested.
  • Prepares the drawings of designs he or she has originated or from sketches provided by others when requested.
Knowledge and Experience Required :
Current enrollment in a college-level technical program or an accredited university engineering program. Continues the learning process by attending in-house seminars and continuing education opportunities outside the office. Completion of the EIT is encouraged but not required. AutoCAD experience preferred. Microsoft Excel spreadsheet knowledge helpful.
