THE POSITION

The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture, in collaboration with the PA Farm Show Complex and Expo Center, is on the lookout for motivated individuals to fill the role of temporary, part-time Security Officer 1. This position plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of our extensive 24-acre facility located in Harrisburg, which proudly hosts the renowned Pennsylvania Farm Show. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Security Officer 1, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety and security of the facility, employees, visitors, contractors, property, and assets for those in attendance at the PA Farm Show Complex. The position requires a high degree of professionalism, the ability to provide excellent customer service, resolve and deescalate conflicts swiftly, work in a fast pace environment, and receive instruction in both written and verbal forms. Following the bureaus safety and security policies and procedures, you will manage diverse situations and make quick and effective decisions. This position must effectively and efficiently communicate with leadership, coworkers, clients, and visitors. A timely response to all emergency situations is vital.

Specific duties include directing traffic, collecting parking fees, greeting and assisting visitors, and patrolling the Complex and parking areas during the busy show season. Daily patrols and duties both inside and outside may be required. You will also be tasked with maintaining daily activity logs regarding incidents or items that need additional attention, as well as promptly communicating with law enforcement as directed by a Lieutenant or Chief of Security regarding any unlawful activities.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Temporary, part-time employment
  • All guards operate on an on-call basis, with no specific shifts assigned. This arrangement allows for flexibility in staffing to accommodate the needs of events held at the facility.
  • Work schedules will include weekends, holidays, and various shifts as required. The specific hours and days may change based upon operational needs.
    • 1st shift: 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM
    • 2nd shift: 3:00 PM to 11:00 PM
    • 3rd shift: 11:00 PM to 7:00 AM
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.
