GRAEF's continued growth has created an exciting opportunity for an experienced Stormwater / Water Resources Engineer to join our Milwaukee office. This position is ideal for a motivated professional looking to take a lead role in the planning, design, and management of stormwater and floodplain projects for public and private clients throughout Wisconsin, with opportunities to support projects across the broader Midwest.

The successful candidate will serve as a technical and project leader on stormwater and water resources projects, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, mentor junior staff, and contribute to business development efforts within a growing and well-established practice.

Candidates must possess the following basic qualifications:



  • Bachelor's degree in Civil, Environmental, or Water Resource Engineering.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in designing and managing a wide variety of site development or linear infrastructure projects involving hydrologic and hydraulic analysis and BMP design.
  • Experience with proposal writing, project interviews, client interactions and business development responsibilities.
  • Knowledge of state and local stormwater, erosion control, and floodplain regulations. Experience permitting projects in the State of Wisconsin.
  • Professional Engineer registration in Wisconsin, or ability to obtain within 12 months.
  • Proficient with hydrology and hydraulic software such as HydroCAD, ICM, HEC-RAS and Hydraflow.


Desired Additional Qualifications:



  • Experience with implementing green infrastructure into stormwater management.
  • Experience with erosion control or best management practice inspections.
  • Experience performing municipal reviews.
  • Accreditation as a Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM).
  • Experience supporting grant funded infrastructure projects.
  • Experience with Phase 1 ESA
  • Preparation of Conditional Letter of Map Revision (CLOMR) and Letter of Map Revision (LOMR) through Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA)


Typical job duties may include:



  • Prepare Stormwater Management Plans for public and private development projects.
  • Perform municipal stormwater management plan review.
  • Prepare hydrologic and hydraulic models of storm water systems or floodplain areas.
  • Assist in identifying flood extents and potential flood reduction measures.
  • Assist in Environmental Impact Analysis Reports
  • Coordinate with other GRAEF disciplines, clients, and consultants.
  • Mentor and support the technical development of junior engineering staff.
  • Assist with proposal development and strategic business development pursuits
