*Description*
The OSP Lead Cable Tech is responsible for leading field splicing operations for outsideplant (OSP) fiber optic networks, ensuring highquality installation, testing, documentation, and restoration of fiber infrastructure. This role requires advanced technical splicing expertise, strong leadership skills, and the ability to oversee crews performing aerial, underground, and inbuilding fiber work. The Lead Splicer ensures that all work adheres to industry standards, safety protocols, and project specifications while maintaining efficient workflows and supporting project delivery. Key Responsibilities Fiber Splicing & Technical Execution Perform singlemode and ribbon fusion splicing, including butt and lateral splicing, midspan cuts, ring cuts, and livefiber work. Troubleshoot fiber optic networks using OTDR, power meters, light sources, and visual fault locators. Install and maintain splice enclosures, cabinets, bulkheads, and distribution panels in both OSP and ISP environments. Read and interpret splice matrices, fiber schematics, construction prints, and cable schedules. Project Leadership & Crew Oversight Lead, mentor, and supervise a crew of 4 technicians, ensuring safe and productive work habits. Coordinate daily job tasks, workflow sequencing, and resource allocation with project managers and field leadership. Ensure all work meets quality, production, documentation, and safety standards. Provide performance oversight, training, and technical guidance to less experienced technicians. Installation, Testing & Field Operations Execute installation and routing of innerduct, conduit systems (Maxcell, Microduct, etc.), and fiber cable placement in aerial, underground, and datacenter environments. Maintain organized work vehicles, jobsite cleanliness, inventory of tools, consumables, and test equipment. Conduct fiber acceptance testing, lossbudget verification, and documentation of test results. Support outage restorations, emergency repairs, and oncall rotations as required. Documentation & Reporting Maintain accurate splicing records, redlines, asbuilts, and jobsite documentation. Provide daily updates, progress reports, and issue escalation to project stakeholders. Required Qualifications 3-5+ years of professional fiber splicing experience; highcount fiber and ribbon splicing strongly preferred. Strong technical knowledge of OSP fiber networks, construction practices, and safety protocols. Proficiency with fusion splicers, ribbon splitters, OTDRs, power meters, and related tools. Ability to read and interpret network diagrams, blueprints, and engineering documentation. Valid driver's license; ability to work outdoors, at heights, in confined spaces, and in all weather conditions. Preferred Qualifications Certifications such as FOA CFOT/CFOS, ETA FOTOSP, BICSI Technician/Installer, or manufacturerspecific splicing credentials. Experience with GPON, FTTH, DWDM/CWDM, or datacenter fiber systems. Experience leading multitechnician splicing crews on OSP projects. Work Environment Fieldbased role requiring travel, outdoor work, and variable weather exposure.
