Job ID: 40970 | Location: Virtual, Virtual, USA

Clariant is seeking a hands-on Business Development Manager to drive growth of our Pharmaceutical Excipients portfolio across North America. This role is built for a commercially driven professional who combines deep pharma technical credibility with the ability to personally open doors, build trust, and advance complex opportunities in highly regulated environments. This is not a marketing strategy or sales support role. Success requires direct ownership of the business development cycle-from identifying unmet customer needs and initiating relationships to navigating long qualification timelines and converting opportunities into sustainable revenue. You will play a critical role in expanding Clariant's footprint across the U.S. and Canada, working closely with technical, regulatory, quality, and operations teams to deliver differentiated excipient solutions to pharmaceutical manufacturers. Clariant offers a competitive base salary, annual performance-based bonus, PTO, and the opportunity to make a visible impact within a collaborative, growth-oriented healthcare business.

Responsibilities

* Personally identify, pursue, and convert new customer opportunities for Clariant's pharmaceutical excipient portfolio across North America
* Prospect, qualify, advance, and close opportunities-navigating long sales cycles, technical evaluations, and regulatory requirements
* Establish and grow relationships with pharmaceutical manufacturers, formulators, and key decision-makers within regulated environments
* Engage confidently in technical and formulation-level discussions with R&D, process development, and quality stakeholders
* Create and execute focused account strategies aligned with Clariant's short- and long-term healthcare growth objectives
* Coordinate closely with Technical, R&D, Quality, Regulatory, Supply Chain, and Operations to deliver on customer commitments
* Manage multi-stakeholder initiatives involving validation, qualification, and supply readiness
* Monitor industry trends, evolving customer requirements, and emerging applications to identify high-impact growth opportunities

Requirements

* Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy, (Bio-)Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related scientific discipline (business degrees considered only with substantial pharmaceutical excipient experience)
* 5+ years of direct business development or sales experience within pharmaceutical excipients or closely related functional ingredients
* Demonstrated success advancing complex B2B opportunities in highly regulated pharmaceutical environments
* Strong working knowledge of excipient functionality, formulation science, and pharma regulatory expectations
* Ability to personally drive business development outcomes, supported by excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills
