Mission:
Quantum Research is seeking an experienced Senior Systems Administrator to serve as a key technical leader responsible for ensuring the secure, reliable, and compliant operation of the CAOC platform. This role will manage and optimize critical Windows Server and virtualized infrastructure services, implement DoD cybersecurity standards, and automate enterprise maintenance through PowerShell scripting.
Ideal Senior Systems Administrator will support authentication and access control solutions, maintain database and storage environments, and assist in vulnerability management and remediation efforts to sustain a strong security posture across the information system. Through advanced troubleshooting and proactive system administration, the Senior Systems Administrator will ensure the CAOC (Computing Architecture Operations Center) platform remains mission-ready, resilient, and fully operational in support of organizational objectives.
Responsibilities:
- Windows server administration, including Active Directory Federation Services (AD FS), Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS), Windows Server Update Services (WSUS), Group Policy Management, Active Directory Certificate Services (AD CS), and Internet Information Services (IIS).
- Leverage PowerShell to administer multiple systems and develop scripts that automate routine daily maintenance and operational tasks.
- Implementation of applicable Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs) and Security Requirements Guides (SRGs) for technologies used within the Information System (IS).
- Understanding of Network-attached storage (NAS) protocols such as SMB/CIFS and NFS versions 3 and 4
- Configure, maintain, and troubleshoot Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) and Single Sign-On (SSO) solutions within Windows environments, including the implementation of CAC-enabled authentication.
- Fundamental understanding of authentication mechanisms such as Kerberos, LDAP and NTLM and use of necessary tools to troubleshoot them.
- Microsoft SQL Server 2022 administration, including installation, patch management, backup and recovery using full and transaction log methods, and creation and maintenance of database user accounts, permissions, and passwords.
- Manage the installation, upgrade, and configuration of VMware vCenter/vSphere 8.x environments, including VM templates, virtual networking (switches, port groups, VLANs), and certificate management.
- Review and conduct vulnerability and compliance scans using ACAS, Nessus, and SCAP.
- Investigate applicable Communications Tasking Orders (CTOs)/Information Assurance Vulnerability Alerts (IAVAs) and develop remediation plans to maintain or improve that overall security posture of the information system.
Requirements:
- Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent field of study with 5 years of experience for mid-level Systems Administrator and 7 years plus for Senior level. Additional experience may be considered in lieu of a degree with proven record of experience.
- Windows Server Roles: AD CS, AD DS, DHCP, DNS, File and Storage Services, Web Server IIS, and WSUS
- Proficient in advanced troubleshooting, including log analysis and root-cause investigation through Windows Event Viewer and SolarWinds monitoring platforms.
- Candidate must be compliant with DoD 8140; DoD Cyber Workforce Framework (DCWF) Code 451, System Administrator, at the intermediate level. Requires CompTIA Security+ CE or other training and education requirements as identified in DoDM 8140.03 and Operating System OS/Computing Environment (CE) Certification
- Security Clearance: Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance

Applicable Certifications include but are not limited to any of the following:
