Position: Senior Project Architect

Location: Indianapolis, IN

The Senior Project Architect provides technical leadership and design oversight for complex architectural projects from concept through construction. This role ensures design integrity, code compliance, and quality documentation while mentoring junior architects and coordinating multidisciplinary teams. The Senior Project Architect also contributes to business development by supporting client relationships, proposal efforts, and interviews. The ideal candidate combines advanced technical expertise with strong communication and leadership skills.



Responsibilities

Technical Leadership

    Lead development of construction documents, specifications, and technical details for complex projects.
  • Ensure compliance with building codes, accessibility standards, and life safety requirements.
  • Oversee QA/QC reviews and maintain firm documentation standards.
  • Research materials, systems, and technologies to inform design decisions.
  • Support construction administration activities, including submittal review, RFIs, and site observations.

Coordination & Collaboration

  • Direct coordination among internal teams and external consultants to resolve design and technical issues.
  • Serve as a primary technical resource for project managers and design teams.
  • Participate in client meetings and presentations; communicate design intent clearly and professionally.

Mentorship & Staff Development

  • Mentor junior architects and designers; provide redlines, feedback, and training on best practices.
  • Contribute to internal knowledge-sharing and standards development.

Business Development

  • Support proposal preparation and interview strategies with technical expertise and project insights.
  • Maintain relationships with clients and consultants; identify opportunities for repeat work.
  • Participate in networking events and represent the firm professionally.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Architecture from an accredited program.
  • 8 or more years of professional experience in architectural design and documentation.
  • Architectural licensure preferred; progress toward licensure required.
  • Expert proficiency in Revit; familiarity with SketchUp and Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Strong understanding of building codes, detailing, and construction methods.
  • Experience with construction administration and permitting processes.
