*Job Description* *Overview* This role involves handling and installing CAT5 and CAT6 lowvoltage cabling within a data center environment. Technicians will install cable on mounted trusses, Jhooks, and strut systems to connect equipment and servers. Work may take place on elevated surfaces such as ladders and scissor lifts and may require overhead fall protection. Shifts can range from 10-12 hours depending on project demands, averaging 50-60 hours per week. Weekend work may occasionally be required on a casebycase basis.
*Job Summary* A Communications Technician I is an entrylevel role, ideal for candidates with 0-1 year of experience in the structured cabling or lowvoltage industry. This position provides handson exposure and the opportunity to grow within a technical installation team. *Key Responsibilities* *Cabling & Installation* * Install workarea outlets for floor monuments, modular furniture, and walls. * Route cable down walls using fish tape or similar tools. * Run cable through modular furniture. * Perform pretermination tasks: organizing, dressing, forming, and labeling cables; determining correct cable length and slack. * Properly suspend and support cabling using trays, Jhooks, Drings, bridal rings, and trapeze systems. *Closet & Rack BuildOuts* * Build and install backboards, racks, patch panels, crossconnects, and fiber hardware. * Install grounding for racks, equipment, and cabling as needed. *FireStopping & Penetration Work* * Conduct firestopping procedures, including installing sleeves and pulling cable through penetrations. *Device Termination* * Terminate lowvoltage devices and ensure proper functionality. *Documentation & Safety* * Complete all project paperwork accurately and on time (timesheets, material transfers, work orders, etc.). * Adhere to company, customer, and industry quality and safety standards. * Support additional duties as assigned. *Qualifications* *Physical Requirements* * Ability to work indoors or outdoors in active construction environments. * Capable of working at heights, in confined spaces, and from ladders. * Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and move up to 75 lbs. * Ability to distinguish colors, read small print, and identify audible signals. * Must be able to travel within the assigned territory as needed. *Professional Requirements* * Selfmotivated with a positive, professional demeanor. * Strong problemsolving and criticalthinking abilities. * Ability to read, write, and provide clear verbal communication. * Willingness to learn and interpret blueprints, specifications, and project documentation. * Ability to support and promote a strong team and project culture. *Tools Required* * Screwdrivers (regular & Phillips) * Drywall saw * Torpedo level * Tape measure * Snips with belt sheath * Needlenose and channellock pliers * Hammer * Wrench set * Cable stripper * Flashlight * Gloves *Education & Experience* * High School Diploma or GED required. * 0-1 year experience in telecommunications, structured cabling, or a related field. * Mechanical aptitude and eagerness to learn. * Basic construction knowledge preferred. * Ability to meet company driving standards is preferred. *Relevant Skills* * CAT6 installation * Cable installation & pulling * Punchdown * Switch installation * Fiber work * Splicing * OSHA 10 (preferred) * Data center cabling *Additional Experience (Preferred)* * IT Support * Data Center operations * Semiconductor/Fab environments * Government or secure facility experience *Job Type & Location* This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Phoenix, AZ. *Pay and Benefits*The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $33.00/hr.
