Overview Sierra Lobo, offers customers a full range of professional and technical capabilities, including Test and Evaluation, Systems Engineering, and Advanced Technologies. We also develop products and processes related to Cryogenic Fluid and Thermal Management Systems, Densified Propellant Management Systems, and Prototype Extreme Pressure and Temperature Systems. Our customers include the Department of Defense (DoD), the U.S. Air Force, U.S. Navy, U.S. Army, Missile Defense Agency (MDA), and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). This position located at or near our Hoover Road facility in Milan, Ohio. Responsibilities FUNCTION OF POSITION Apply creative analytical and practical Electrical Engineering knowledge (consistent with a pre-graduate level of skill) to tasks of varying complexity within the Aerospace and Defense Industry. Use a self-sufficient and hands-on approach to complete assigned tasks. Interface with technical and non-technical personnel within the organization. Seek and obtain experience in multiple aspects of the engineering profession. DURATION AND REPETITION
Candidates must have a minimum of three (3) months availability for an initial Co-Op work session beginning in Summer 2026. Upon completion of a successful first session, SLI intends to offer additional Co-Op sessions (or part-time employment) until graduation as business conditions permit.
Reports to an assigned supervisor, but for the most part works under the general guidance of multiple members of the Engineering Staff. Must be capable of working with minimal supervision at times. Must exhibit sufficient self-discipline to complete assigned tasks on-time. May be asked to identify or propose potential tasks particularly relevant to their career interests.
This position will have no supervisory responsibilities. The successful candidate should expect to interact with Engineering Technicians on a frequent basis. Qualifications The successful applicant is required to be enrolled in an ABET-accredited university and pursuing a BS or higher degree in Electrical Engineering or a sufficiently-relevant Engineering discipline. Candidates must have completed a minimum of two (2) semesters of course work prior to the start of work. Candidates must have successfully completed a minimum of one semester prior to application to this position. Prior schematic capture and PCB layout tool experience using Altium Designer will be a strength in the candidate selection. Experience with similar tools such as OrCAD PSPICE Designer is also relevant. Basic hands-on skills in an electronics lab environment are required. Use of voltmeters, ammeters, oscilloscopes, power supplies, data acquisition systems and other common equipment should be expected. Expert-level skill is not expected prior to selection. A specific interest in the aerospace and defense industry is desireable but not mandatory. Academic or other experience in software development is a significant strength. US Citizenship is required for this position due to ITAR, CUI and other US Government-imposed restrictions specified by Executive Order and the Code of Federal Regulations. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING INTERN POSITION
Visual and physical contact with system hardware and installed equipment. Multiple workstation assignments (office, test facility, control room, laboratory, shops, etc.).
Work is accomplished in offices, laboratories, shops, test facilities and in the field. Must be able to wear safety glasses.
Applicants must be a minimum of 18 years of age.
Office and facility equipment includes computers, calculators, electronic instruments, mechanical instruments, vacuum systems, solder stations, laser equipment, miscellaneous precision measuring devices, etc. In all cases, appropriate operator training will be provided as needed to ensure personnel safety.
Standard working hours are 8am-5pm weekdays however mandatory (paid) overtime may be required on a limited basis to support periods of increased demand. The student is required to notify their supervisor in the event of any unscheduled absenses.
All work will be in-person in nature, taking place at the SLI TDEC facility located in Milan, OH. Occasional remote work may be authorized, however this will be on a very limited basis. Occasional travel via company vehicle or commercial aircraft within the continental US may be necessary. All associated costs incurred will be reimbursed in accordance with company policy and Federal and State Law. | |||||||||||||
