Job Overview

The Communications Specialist is responsible for establishing positive associations with all Children's Hospital Colorado audiences, which may include internal stakeholders, patients and families, media, community, referring physicians, payers, partners, healthcare industry and the public at large. The Communications Specialist takes creative direction from department leadership and will bring forth new strategic content ideas for various Physician Relations communication channels. The Communications Specialist works collaboratively with all levels of management and staff throughout the department and organization also providing support for ad hoc Physician Relations projects and helping to maintain a mutually beneficial relationship between Physician Relations and collaborative partners. The Communications Specialist has strong professional interpersonal and communications skills.

Job Status: Full-time, 40 hours per week, Hybrid

Shift: Days. Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 5:00pm

Duties & Responsibilities

Content Creation & Management

  • Develop, write, and edit content for all Physician Relations communication channels, including the NewsNow newsletters, special leadership communications, internal updates, department newsletters, and collateral pieces.
  • Lead creative integration across platforms in collaboration with Marketing and other departments to ensure messaging aligns with CHCO's brand and value to diverse audience segments.
  • Conduct research and interviews with subject matter experts to ensure content accuracy and relevance for newsletters, special communications, podcast scripts, and other materials.
  • Provide thorough quality review of all content-draft and final-including formatting, grammar, accuracy, and brand alignment prior to leader or stakeholder approval.

Newsletter & Campaign Management

  • 'Manage the production of NewsNow, including content creation, scheduling, integration with broader communication strategy, and facilitate distribution.
  • Support communication initiatives for the Pediatric Care Network (PCN).
  • Launch and produce new specialty newsletters, including those supporting the fetal center and mental health programs.
  • Lead the transition of all Physician Relations communications from MailChimp to Salesforce Marketing Cloud within the first 6-9 months of hire.

Podcast Support

  • Provide back-up operational and production support for the Charting Pediatrics and Pediatras en Linea podcasts in partnership with the Senior Communications Specialist.
  • Serve as technical backup and cross-trained resource for all recording and production tasks.

Event & Conference Coordination

  • Lead planning and coordination of department presence at local, regional, and national conferences, including messaging development, identification and creation of support materials, follow-up communications for attendees, and onsite support as needed

Program & Collateral Support

  • Oversee collateral needs for Physician Relations, including development of department-generated pieces and collaboration with Marketing on additional materials.
  • Partner with the administrative professional to manage ordering, inventory, and distribution of collateral.
  • Ensure consistent and accurate application of CHCO brand standards, design templates, and system architecture across all communications.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Serve as a liaison between Physician Relations, Marketing, service lines, Business Development, and other internal partners to develop and implement effective communication strategies.
  • Engage with internal clients to gather input, obtain approvals, and ensure communication solutions meet program needs.

Additional Duties

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Strong proficiency in writing, editing, and content development.
  • Solid understanding of Microsoft Office tools.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and adapt within a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to high-quality deliverables.
  • Experience with Salesforce Marketing Cloud preferred.

Scope & Level

  • Guidelines: Guidelines are generally but not always clearly applicable, requiring the employee to exercise judgment in selecting the most pertinent guideline, interpret precedents, adapt standard practices to differing situations, and recommend alternative actions in situations without precedent.
  • Complexity: Duties assigned are generally complex and may be of substantial intricacy. Work assignment is performed within an established framework under general instructions but requires simultaneous coordination of assigned functions or projects in various stages of completion.
  • Decision Making: Exercises judgment and discretion, and is responsible for determining the time, place and sequence of the work performed.
  • Communications: Contacts with the public or employees where explanatory or interpretive information is exchanged, defended, and gathered and discretion and judgment are required within the parameters of the job function.
  • Supervision Received: Performs work with minimal supervisory oversight. Under general supervision, the employee receives assignments and is expected to carry them through to completion with substantial independence. Work is reviewed for adherence to instructions, accuracy, completeness, and conformance to standard practice or precedent. Recurring work clearly covered by guidelines may or may not be reviewed.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Degrees
    • Bachelor's degree in copywriting, journalism, marketing, public relations, communications, English or a related field
  • Experience
    • Three (3) years of experience relevant to the assigned discipline, in an agency, studio, or corporate environment
  • Equivalency
    • Professional experience, beyond requirements, in a related field may substitute for a Bachelor degree requirement on a year for year basis

Salary Information
Pay is dependent on applicant's relevant experience.

Annual Salary Range (Based on 40 hours worked per week): $66,083.89 to $99,125.84
