PAY RANGE: $167,600 - $223,500

Scheduled Work Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. (Other hours as required)
We offer a hybrid work environment with three days in the office and two days per week of work from home flexibility.

Summary of Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

We are looking for an experienced legal professional to join our regulatory affairs legal team. This position will report to the Senior Director and Regulatory Affairs Counsel and will be a key member of a team that is responsible for handling all regulatory legal work for the company. Although the Corporate Counsel will be part of a team, he or she will have the opportunity for autonomy and will need to work with outside counsel and other personnel.

Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
* Regulatory Compliance: Ensuring the utility complies with federal, state, and local regulations related to electricity generation, transmission, and distribution.
* Representation: Representing the utility before the Missouri Public Service Commission (MoPSC), the Kansas Corporation Commission (KCC), and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) and in matters involving the Southwest Power Pool, North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC), and the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).
* Contested Cases: Participating in contested cases, hearings, and proceedings before the MoPSC and KCC, including the preparation of written testimony, pleadings and briefs, involvement in the discovery process, representation of the company during settlement proceedings, and appearance before the Commissions at hearings and other formal proceedings.
* Outside Counsel: Managing outside counsel as necessary to ensure successful representation of the company in regulatory matters.
* Legal Research: Conducting legal research on energy laws, rules, and policies.
* Drafting Documents: Preparing legal documents, including briefs, motions, and orders.
* Policy Analysis: Analyzing policy issues and their impact on the utility business.
* Stakeholder Communication: Interacting with external stakeholders, including government agencies, industry groups, and customers.
* Professional Development: Staying informed about developments in energy regulation and maintaining knowledge of relevant laws and rules.

Education and Experience Requirements:
* A law degree and admission to practice in Missouri and Kansas (see below).
* Significant prior experience in energy/utility regulation, administrative law, or related fields and an understanding of energy industry regulations, accounting practices, and relevant legal frameworks.
* Membership and participation are encouraged in professional organizations, such as local, state, and national bar associations, as well as in industry associations.

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities Required:
* Strong written and verbal communication skills for representing the utility and interacting with stakeholders.
* A high degree of professionalism and excellent interpersonal skills are required.
* Ability to effectively work with diverse constituencies, including Company officers, directors, division heads and personnel in all departments, as well as external contacts including attorneys, judges, court personnel, commissions, commission staff members, legislatures and legislative committees, municipal officials, vendors, consultants, the media, shareholders, and the general public.
* Exceptional problem-solving skills and the ability to manage and supervise team efforts for large projects. Exceptional ability to coordinate cross-over issues from Companywide projects. Ability to contribute to the strategic plans and goals of the Company.
* Business-oriented approach to problem-solving, tempered by an appreciation for legal complexity and risk.
* Precise drafting and accurate legal research and pragmatic analysis.
* Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities within established deadlines.
* Intellectual curiosity, flexibility, and a desire to work in a team setting.
* Excellent understanding of the Company's business objectives and technical aspects to anticipate legal issues that may impact the Company and provide competent and strategic advice and counsel.

Licenses, Certifications, Bonding, and/or Testing Required: Kansas and Missouri state license or the ability to waive into these jurisdictions.
