Value Accelerator

The Value Accelerator ("VA") is a critical component of the Asset Management Division investing strategy at Goldman Sachs. Goldman Sachs has a leading private equity franchise as part of its Alternatives platform which is focused on acquiring and growing middle-market companies across diverse sectors.

In close partnership with the corporate, growth, infrastructure and credit investment teams, the VA contributes to the success of our portfolio companies throughout the investment lifecycle from pre-investment diligence, to scaling growth, to optimizing exit strategies. The VA team works with experienced senior executives, best-in-class professional services providers, and innovative technology providers to deliver programs and services that add value to our portfolio companies in key areas including revenue scaling, talent, ESG and risk optimization, digital transformation, and operational excellence. Our success is built on a foundation of rigorous financial discipline, strategic insight, and a commitment to fostering strong leadership within our portfolio companies.

Overview of Role:

The VP of Finance for Portfolio Operations will be a critical member of our investment team, responsible for overseeing and enhancing the financial performance and capabilities of our portfolio companies. This individual will work directly with the CFOs and finance teams of our portfolio companies, providing strategic guidance, implementing best practices, and ensuring robust financial reporting and controls. The role requires a hands-on, operationally-focused finance leader who can drive value creation across a diverse portfolio.

Key Responsibilities:

Portfolio Company Financial Oversight: Serve as a strategic financial advisor to portfolio company CFOs and finance teams, guiding them on financial strategy, operational improvements, and value creation initiatives.



  • Establish and standardize financial reporting score cards, budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management processes across the portfolio.
  • Monitor financial performance of portfolio companies, identifying trends, risks, and opportunities, and working with management to implement corrective actions or capitalize on growth initiatives.
  • Lead initiatives to optimize working capital, improve profitability, and enhance cash generation within portfolio companies.
  • Assist portfolio companies with complex financial analyses, capital allocation decisions, and strategic planning.


Operational & Strategic Support:



  • Drive the implementation of financial best practices, systems, and controls across the portfolio to ensure accuracy, efficiency, and compliance.
  • Support due diligence efforts for new acquisitions, including financial modeling, risk assessment, and integration planning.
  • Assist in the development and execution of exit strategies for portfolio companies, including preparing for sale processes and managing financial aspects of transactions.
  • Identify and implement opportunities for cost reduction and operational efficiency within portfolio companies.


Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field; MBA or CPA highly preferred.
  • Experience as a CFO or VP of Finance in an operating company, preferably within a private equity-backed environment.
  • Strong operational finance background with a proven track record of driving financial performance improvements and value creation.
  • Expertise in financial planning & analysis (FP&A), budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and financial reporting
  • Experience with M&A due diligence, integration, and divestitures.
  • Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to present complex financial information clearly to diverse audiences
  • High degree of integrity, strategic thinking, and leadership presence
  • Ability to travel frequently to portfolio company locations as required.
  • Operational mindset


Salary Range

The expected base salary for this New York, New York, United States-based position is $150000-$300000. In addition, you may be eligible for a discretionary bonus if you are an active employee as of fiscal year-end.
