The Corporate Information Services Department is seeking a dynamic and talented Clinical Informaticist II - Pharmacy.

The Clinical Informaticist II - Pharmacy acts as a key clinical and technical resource supporting design, build, optimization and maintenance of pharmacy-related functionality within the Cerner electronic health record (EHR). This role acts as a liaison between pharmacy operations, clinical stakeholders and Information Services to ensure safe, efficient, and evidence-based medication use across UHS acute care and behavioral health hospitals utilizing Cerner. Leverages knowledge of pharmacy workflows, clinical decision support and regulatory requirements to lead complex Cerner pharmacy initiatives, including medication build, rules and system integrations. This position provides guidance and mentorship to junior analysts, contributes to system standardization efforts, and plays a critical role in testing, validation and go-live support for new implementations. In addition, this role partners closely with pharmacists, providers, nursing and IT teams to analyze workflows, identify opportunities for optimization, and implement solutions that enhance patient safety, regulatory compliance and operational efficiency. Providing documentation, process workflow and other functionality related to clinical information system sustainability, support and development are key. Supports ongoing system governance, change management, and continuous improvement initiatives while staying current on Cerner enhancements, pharmacy best practices and industry standards.

Key responsibilities include:

Build & Optimization:

  • Independently performs complex Cerner pharmacy build, including medication catalogs, order sentences, clinical decision support and workflow configuration.
  • Analyzes system issues, performs root cause analysis and implements sustainable solutions.
  • Identifies opportunities for optimization and continuous improvement based on user feedback (via tickets and enhancement requests), data analytics and best practices.
  • Ensures system build and workflows comply with regulatory, accreditation and patient safety standards.

Leadership & Initiative:

  • Leads the design, build, optimization, maintenance and provide ongoing support of pharmacy-related functionality within the Cerner EHR.
  • Serves as a subject matter expert for Cerner pharmacy solutions and clinical workflows
  • Provides guidance, mentorship and support to junior analysts and other IS team members
  • Participates in or leads enterprise-wide initiatives, standardization efforts and system optimization projects
  • Use pharmacy practice experience to guide information services and clinical departments to configure systems properly to ensure patient safety

Communication & Collaboration:

  • Communicates effectively with pharmacy leadership, pharmacists, providers, nursing and information services teams to gather requirements and align solutions with clinical and operational goals
  • Acts as a liaison between clinical stakeholders and technical teams, translating clinical needs into system build and technical specifications
  • Presents recommendations, system impacts, and status updates to stakeholders and leadership as needed
  • Keeps management well informed of activities, needs, problems
  • Collaborates with interdisciplinary teams (including internal IS teams, Corporate Pharmacy Operations and/or local Pharmacy Leadership groups) to ensure safe, efficient and compliant medication-use workflows.

Planning & Project Execution:

  • Plans, coordinates, and executes pharmacy-related EHR initiatives, including new builds, enhancements, upgrades and regulatory-driven changes.
  • Develops and maintains project documentation, timelines, build specifications and testing plans
  • Prioritizes workload and manages multiple initiatives simultaneously while meeting deadlines
  • Participates in change management processes, including impact assessment, validation and approval workflows
  • Maintains a current knowledge of developments and issues in healthcare, evidence-based practice, healthcare informatics and regulatory.

Additional Duties:

  • Adheres to UHS Project Management standards and Change Control processes
  • Provides on call after hours support for urgent issues as needed
  • Maintains Service Excellence principles
  • Maintain a positive relationship with facility and corporate personnel
  • Provides go-live, post-implementation and ongoing support for pharmacy-related Cerner functionality as needed
  • Maintains knowledge of Cerner enhancements, pharmacy informatics trends and industry best practices

Qualifications

Knowledge:

  • Bachelor's degree in Informatics, Pharmacy, or a related field plus 3-5 years of related experience required.
  • Advanced knowledge of pharmacy operations and medication-use processes across inpatient and/or behavioral health settings
  • Strong understanding of Cerner Millenium pharmacy solutions, including medication build, order catalogs, clinical decision support and pharmacy workflows
  • Knowledge of clinical informatics principles, system lifecycle management and change control processes
  • Working knowledge of medication safety, regulatory accreditation standards
  • Understanding of interdisciplinary workflows involving pharmacy, nursing and providers
  • Working knowledge of project management methodology, change control, quality and system performance methods and familiarity with data reporting and metrics.
  • Familiarity with data reporting, system testing and validation processes within an EHR environment.

Skills:

  • Ability to design, build, test, implement, support and maintain complex pharmacy content within Cerner
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to translate clinical and operational needs into technical solutions
  • Effective communication skills to collaborate with clinical stakeholders, local information services teams and leadership groups
  • Demonstrated ability to lead initiatives, prioritize work and manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ability to troubleshoot system issues, perform root cause analysis and recommend sustainable solutions
  • Strong documentation skills, including workflow diagrams, build specifications, change requests, education materials, reports and presentations
  • Ability to mentor, support and teach junior informaticists and/or system analysts
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and standard IS tools
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work with end users to determine software specifications and process improvement workflows
  • Ability to create system documentation, project documents, education materials, reports and presentations
  • Ability to act independently and complete projects from beginning to end with minimal supervision
  • Professional demeanor with excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with all levels of staff on clinical and information technology matters

Licensure: Current licensure as a Registered Pharmacist (RPh) is preferred.

Training: Ongoing education related to clinical informatics, medication safety and EHR optimization. Compliance with all UHS mandatory education, security and privacy training.

Travel Requirements: 5 - 25% domestic US travel (depending on projects and go live events)
