Overview
Salary Range: $146,635-$257,630 This commercial role within the Corporate Business Development Group drives YLA's domestic transportation growth-shaping and winning OTR brokerage (FTL/LTL) and intermodal opportunities-while piloting a phased path to managed transportation as customer readiness and internal capabilities mature. As a cross BU catalyst, it partners primarily with SCS/YLA Solutions Design (engaging CLG and IFF as needed) to qualify pursuits and collaborate across the organization to win new land transportation business. As the commercial lead, the role orchestrates joint sales with IVs and BUs-supports the building of a disciplined pipeline (with a focus on existing YLA accounts/relationships) while helping define what domestic transportation in YLA should (re)build and how to scale it in future years.
Responsibilities
Market & solution expertise
- Bring deep understanding of domestic transportation solutions and value propositions across key industry verticals.
- Stay current on logistics technology trends and how they enable solution enhancement or new product capabilities.
- Commercial hunting & pipeline
- Execute Business Development plan for domestic transportation, delivering volume, revenue, margin and strategic goals aligned to the SCS fiscal plan.
- Prospect using tools, networks, and relationships; support qualification of opportunities through the Solutions Design team.
- Solution engagement & proposals
- Ensure solutions align with SCS defined capabilities; secure internal sign offs for any new services/functionality and set appropriate internal/client expectations.
- Develop account strategies, tailored presentations, system demos, pricing/commercial recommendations, and customized proposals.
- Cross BU orchestration & capability build
- Coordinate pursuit teams across SCS/CLG/IFF to convert strategic, multi year wins.
- Executive client engagement & feedback
- Engage decisively at Director/VP/C suite levels to build trusted relationships.
- Capture and disseminate structured account feedback-including unsuccessful pursuits-to continuously improve future engagements and offerings.
- Governance, reporting & cadence
- Provide BD and BU leadership with regular updates; maintain CRM hygiene and cadence of internal reviews covering targeting, pipeline, forecasts, market developments, and needed product enhancements.
- Win transition & relationship growth
- Post award, document and communicate commercial agreements (contracts, pricing, scope of work); partner on credit setup and transition meetings to ensure a clean go
- Remain engaged, in alignment with account teams, to support MBRs/QBRs and relationship continuity.
- Brand Representation & Operating Discipline
- Identify and prioritize industry conferences and events (e.g., TIA, IANA) where YLA should have a presence, using a targeted approach to ensure professional representation at selected events and in customer meetings.
- Operate as a self starter in planning travel, meetings, and materials; international travel (e.g., Mexico / Canada) may be required.
- Must be able to use a computer for tasks such as communicating via email, preparing reports, and working in various software systems, including Microsoft Office.
- Ability to travel up to 30% as well as work a Hybrid Schedule as required by company policy.
Qualifications
- A minimum of five years' experience in the Domestic Transportation industry, covering areas such as IMC, OTR, FTL, LTL, Drayage, and Parcel, along with at least two years in commercial or strategic planning roles.
- Previous experience managing a business development team preferred.
- Proven ability to work and navigate the internal mechanisms of a large Regional & Global organization to build consensus and execute deliverables as requested.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills are required, mainly when presenting business development opportunities to external customers.
- Proven ability to build relationships with external stakeholders to accelerate the company's business development efforts within the vertical.
- Ability to coach and manage direct reports to enhance their performance and career development.
- Previous experience using CRM software is required.
- Bachelor's Degree preferred.
- Bilingual in Spanish and English is required.
Working Conditions
- Work is primarily performed in an office environment with moderate noise levels (phones, printers, conversations).
- Involves prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and frequent use of computers and office equipment.
- Regular use of hands and fingers, including, but not limited to, typing, filing, frequent keyboarding, mouse clicking and handling documents.
- Occasional lifting or moving of office supplies or equipment up to 25 pounds.
- Requires strong analytical, decision-making, and critical-thinking skills.
- Must be able to read, interpret, and compose clear written and verbal communications.
- Visual acuity required for tasks including, but not limited to, computer work, document review, and data analysis.
- Must maintain strong organizational skills, confidentiality, and independent work habits.
- Adaptability to changing priorities and effective professional communication with colleagues and customers.
- Regular, punctual attendance and compliance with all company policies and procedures; occasional overtime may be required.
- On-Site Requirements: In-office presence required for meetings, team events and scheduled days.
- Must be able to work as part of a functional team including working in an office on a Hybrid Schedule as required by company policy
