Description

Leidos' Defense Sector is seeking a SeniorSystems Engineer to support an Army Program focused on delivering advanced capabilities for operational decision-making in complex and dynamic environments. The Senior Systems Engineer leads the planning, design, integration, and verification of complex systems across the full engineering lifecycle. This role requires deep system-thinking expertise, strong analytical skills, and the ability to coordinate technical efforts across multidisciplinary teams. The engineer will define system architectures, manage requirements, guide technical decisionmaking, and ensure that all subsystems integrate seamlessly to meet program objectives. This position is ideal for someone who excels at solving complex problems, driving crossfunctional alignment, and influencing technical strategy.

Locations include Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD; Fort Belvoir, FL; Tampa, FL

This position is contingent upon program award, anticipated late March.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development, decomposition, and management of systemlevel requirements, architectures, and technical baselines.
  • Define system concepts, interfaces, and integration strategies for complex hardware and software systems.
  • Conduct trade studies, risk assessments, and technical analyses to support decisionmaking.
  • Oversee system integration activities, ensuring compatibility and performance across subsystems.
  • Lead verification and validation planning, including test strategy, requirements traceability, and acceptance criteria.
  • Facilitate technical reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR) and ensure readiness for program milestones.
  • Collaborate with engineering, program management, and customer stakeholders to ensure alignment with technical and program objectives.
  • Troubleshoot systemlevel issues and drive rootcause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Develop and maintain system engineering documentation, including specifications, interface control documents (ICDs), and system engineering plans.
  • Mentor junior and midlevel systems engineers and contribute to process improvement initiatives.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related technical field with 8+ years of experience or a Master's degree with 6+ years of experience. Additional experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Active Secret clearance with the ability to obtain a TS/SCI.
  • Experience in systems engineering or multidisciplinary engineering roles.
  • Strong understanding of systems engineering principles, including requirements management, architecture development, and verification/validation.
  • Experience with systems engineering tools (e.g., DOORS, Jama, Cameo, JIRA, Confluence).
  • Proven ability to lead crossfunctional engineering efforts and drive technical alignment.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and interface documents.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in systems Engineering or related discipline.
  • Experience in aerospace, defense, automotive, robotics, or other complex system development environments.
  • Knowledge of modelbased systems engineering (MBSE) methods and tools.
  • Familiarity with risk management, trade studies, and technical decision frameworks.
  • Experience leading design reviews and supporting major program milestones.
  • Understanding of configuration management and change control processes.
  • Ability to influence architecture decisions and longterm technical strategy.
