What you'll do

As the Director of Government Space Segment Strategic Sourcing, you will lead the approaches to sourcing that power some of Viasat's most critical federal space initiatives. You will be responsible for ensuring that every component, subsystem, and supplier supporting our space programs meets the highest standards of quality, reliability, compliance, and performance. You will own the endtoend sourcing strategy for our government space initiatives, developing longrange plans that ensure supply continuity, mission assurance, and cost competitiveness. You'll work with the technical development group, project coordination, quality assurance, and contracts. You interpret sophisticated technical and mission requirements to develop supplier strategies. These strategies ensure programs stay on schedule and meet government regulations.

In this role, you'll have the outstanding opportunity to harmonize strategies across governmental and private space domains. You will help build Viasat's broader enterprise space-sourcing strategy by bringing together shared suppliers, aligning technology roadmaps, and driving common processes. This will unlock efficiencies across the portfolio.
You will guide supplier selection, negotiate highvalue agreements, and build deep strategic relationships with key industry partners. Your work ensures suppliers meet rigorous spacegrade standards and deliver the reliability required for programs that often operate in zerofailure, critically important environments. Your ability to influence across functions and business segments will be critical as you guide teams toward aligned, datadriven sourcing decisions.


The day-to-day

The Director of Strategic Sourcing for Government Space will lead all aspects of sourcing, supplier strategy, and initiatives related to federal aerospace projects. They will coordinate intimately with the Commercial Space segment to encourage alignment, grow scale, and drive innovation forward. Reporting to the Vice President who leads Government Supply Chain and Planning, this role provides critical leadership. It ensures mission success for a highly complex, regulated space program.

This role is responsible for developing and accomplishing sourcing strategies that ensure compliance, quality, cost competitiveness, and supply continuity for spacegrade hardware, subsystems, and services. The Strategic Sourcing Director will serve as a key interface between Engineering, Program Management, Quality, Contracts, and executive leadership, translating engineering and operational needs into robust, executable supplier strategies.


What you'll need

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and complete strategic sourcing initiatives for all federal space initiatives, aligned with enterprise objectives and government compliance requirements
  • Partner closely alongside the Commercial Space segment to harmonize sourcing strategies, leverage common suppliers, and capture crossportfolio efficiencies
  • Develop and implement category strategies for spacegrade components, materials, and services, balancing cost, risk, performance, quality, and schedule
  • Act as a primary sourcing advisor to the VP coordinating government logistics and planning, providing datadriven insights, risk assessments, and strategic recommendations
  • Lead supplier selection, negotiations, and contracting efforts, including highvalue, highcomplexity agreements
  • Establish and manage strategic supplier relationships, including executivelevel engagement, performance management, and risk control
  • Collaborate alongside Engineering, Quality, and Program teams to ensure suppliers meet stringent spacegrade quality, reliability, and regulatory requirements
  • Prepare and deliver clear, concise presentations to executive leadership on sourcing strategy, supplier performance, cost optimization, and program risk
  • Drive supplier innovation, continuous improvement, and costreduction initiatives while maintaining critical performance standards
  • Support proposal activities and new program pursuits with sourcing strategies, cost models, and supplier assessments

What will help you on the job

  • 15+ years of experience in strategic sourcing, procurement, or supply chain management within space, aerospace, or similarly regulated industries
  • Deep understanding of space applications, spacegrade materials, hardware, and associated quality and reliability standards
  • Strong negotiation skills with demonstrated success in complex, multiyear, and highvalue supplier agreements
  • Proven supplier management experience, including performance governance, executive engagement, and risk mitigation
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and complete long-term sourcing and category strategies aligned to business and mission objectives
  • Executivelevel communication skills, including the ability to present strategies, recommendations, and risks to senior leadership
  • Strong crossfunctional leadership skills with experience partnering with Engineering, Quality, Program Management, and Contracts
  • Must be a US citizen
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a US Secret Clearance

    This role may be performed remotely or onsite in Duluth, GA
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting U.S. Government space programs and regulated contracting environments
  • Familiarity working across both Government and Commercial Space supply chains
  • Experience influencing strategy across multiple business segments and senior leadership teams
  • Advanced degree (MBA or technical master's degree)

Salary range

$131,500.00 - $207,500.00 / annually.
For specific work locations within San Jose, the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, the base pay range for this role is $163,500.00- $245,500.00/ annually
