Under supervision, the Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) provides screening, counseling and vaccine administration at the South Bay Public Health Center in compliance with County policies and procedures. The LVN also provides oversight of clinic procedures including but not limited to maintaining appropriate supply of vaccine, work direction of staff for required tasks, and overall patient flow and clinic operations. The LVN assists with data entry, vaccine inventory and accountability, and/or maintenance of clinic immunization records in the local immunization registry. The LVN assists in the education/training of pediatric and family practice residents and County nursing staff on pediatric vaccine administration and immunization practice management.

This position also will be responsible for home visits with participants in immunization-related research studies. Responsibilities vary by study and may include medical record review, immunization history review, telephone and in person communication, scheduling study visits, questionnaires administration, completion of case report forms, vaccine administration, nasal or nasopharyngeal swabs, blood, collection, and other specimen collection while following subjects in longitudinal study protocols for routine and illness visits. The LVN will interact with research team, the UCSD Human Subjects Protection Program, study sponsors, and other research related entities as needed. Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • License issued by the State of California Board of Vocational Nurse Examiners.

  • Proficiency and certificate for phlebotomy, with experience in pediatrics.

  • BART or BLS at time of hire with commitment to get BART within 6 months of hire date.

  • Bilingual in English/Spanish.

  • Ability to interact with the lay and professional public in both Spanish and English.

  • Experience working independently and prioritizing tasks to meet strict guidelines and deadlines.

  • Proficient at word processing, spreadsheet, and E-mail with experience producing reports, profiles, correspondence, graphs, and spreadsheets to generate and track required data.

  • Experience performing effectively under conditions of high workload and frequent interruptions.

  • Experience maintaining patient confidentiality and communicating (verbally and written) with patients, staff and physicians with professionalism, sensitivity and discretion.

  • Experience and ability to accurately collect, record, transcribe and synthesize clinical data.

  • Demonstrated experience interacting positively, constructively, and effectively with staff, physicians, patients and the general public.

  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to effectively and efficiently coordinate clinical and data activities for the retention of patients in clinical trials.

  • Ability to administer vaccines via all routes.

  • Demonstrated experience with clinical research activities and guidelines related to ethical conduct and protection of human subjects.

  • Experience with the San Diego Regional Immunization Registry software.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.

  • Location: South Bay Public Health Center and will perform home visits throughout San Diego County.

  • Work Schedule: Must be willing to work a flexible schedule mainly on weekdays but with occasional early mornings, evenings or weekends.

  • Must have access to reliable transportation and willing to perform home visits.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $67,756 - $84,209 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $32.45 - $40.33

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
