The Quincy Kroc Center is seeking a seasonal Cook to support our Summer Feeding Program. This position plays a direct role in ensuring children in the community receive safe, nutritious, and welcoming meals during the summer months. The Cook is responsible for preparing meals, maintaining a clean and organized kitchen, and ensuring all food service operations meet established safety and health standards. This is a hands-on role that requires efficiency, attention to detail, and a commitment to serving.

Schedule: Monday-Friday | 8:30am-2:00pm

Rate of Pay: $16.00/hour

Program Hours: Meals served 11:30am-1:00pm

Key Responsibilities



  1. Plan, prepare, and serve meals in accordance with Illinois Summer Feeding Site Program (SFSP) requirements and food handling certification standards.
  2. Comply with all applicable state and local health regulations in kitchen operations.
  3. Ensure the dining room and food service areas are cleaned and sanitized before and after meal service.
  4. Maintain inventory of supplies and equipment.
  5. Keep pantry, refrigerator, and freezer storage areas organized and properly labeled.
  6. Monitor and record food temperatures to ensure compliance with food safety requirements.

Qualifications

Education: High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Must have or obtain food handling certification within 30 days of hire.

Experience: One (1) year cooking experience preferred. Working knowledge of health codes in the Quincy, IL area is a plus.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:



  • Ability to operate industrial and standard kitchen equipment such as dishwashing machines, garbage disposals, and three-compartment sinks.
  • Understanding of safe food handling practices in a commercial kitchen environment
  • Strong organizational skills and close attention to detail
  • Service-oriented mindset with a willingness to help others
  • Ability to work independently while also contributing as part of a team.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time
  • Ability to lift and carry 25lbs
  • Valid Drivers license and insured, reliable transportation
  • Must pass The Salvation Army Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check and background check
