Pay Rate: $16.00 hr.

Summary:The summer operator is under the supervision of the Production Supervisor. The operator's primary focus is to perform their work tasks in a safe manner following all safety, operating, and quality guidelines while ensuring that the Finishing operation keeps up with the demand of the product being produced and brought to the area on the conveyor.

Hours:

  • Start Time 5:30am-5:30pm

  • Alternating schedule

  • Scheulde can change based on management discretion

  • Length of Summer Employees needed:June-start of school

Functions / Responsibilities

  • Perform all work tasks in a safe manner following safety procedures (i.e. Lock Out/Tag Out Procedures.)

  • Perform a personal safety risk assessment before beginning work tasks.

  • Wears proper Personal Protective equipment (PPE) for work area and when in other areas of the plant.

  • Ability to work safely and effectively in a mineral wool manufacturing environment.

  • Ability to perform an inspection of the PLO work area, including all equipment, the lift truck, and conveyor belts - looking for equipment malfunctions and potential problem areas. (i.e. oil leaks, loud motors, loose bolts, broken belts, etc.)

  • Ability to understand lift truck driver training and successfully pass lift truck license test which includes both a written test and a driving test.

  • Ability to explain equipment malfunctions to Production Supervisor and Maintenance.

  • Ability to read and follow Standard Operating Procedures.

  • Perform work tasks in order to respond and meet the requirements of the company:

    • required products are packed appropriately

    • all tools, packaging materials are appropriate, acceptable and used correctly.

  • Properly package the finished product in accordance with Customer requirements and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

  • Ability to listen to, understand, track and execute various written or verbal instructions - passing on and explaining instructions to other operators when needed.

  • Report (verbally and/or in writing) irregularities, off-spec products, safety or security risk situations, accidents, breakdown of equipment and defective raw materials to the Production Superior.

  • Properly load bales into the proper trailer using the lift truck.

  • If producing bags, affix the proper labels onto each skid.

  • Complete required Packaging paperwork (i.e. Quality Control report for bales/bags).

  • Participate in all stages of the operation of packing equipment and routing correctly to the appropriate storage location.

  • Communicate adequately with Production Supervisor, other Finishing Operators, Furnace Operators, Maintenance, and Raw Material handlers.

  • Ability to work well as part of a team and also independent of direct supervision.

  • Responsible for keeping work area clean, organized, and free of debris - following established housekeeping standards.

  • Continuous observation of the product and process to ensure production of quality product and that equipment is running properly.

  • Ability to use a computer to access email, send and receive email messages using Microsoft Office, enter multiple pieces of data into applications and spreadsheets, read and understand information. reports, and charts in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Power point.

  • Attend and actively participate in safety meetings.

  • Understands and follows the Plant Evacuation plan in the event of an emergency.

  • Reads plant communications, procedure changes, and emails.

  • Ability to plug numbers into basic formulas to calculate information for required paperwork.

  • At the start of every shift, meet with the out-going shift operators to discuss any issues encountered on the previous shift

  • As necessary, the Summer Hire Operator will be called upon to perform other tasks depending on availability/according to the requirements for production, quality, safety and environment. For example. General cleaning, painting, etc.

Qualifications

High School diploma and/or GED. Must meet pre-employment drug screening. Ability to adapt to a mineral wool plant environment for job safety and health regulations. Perform tasks independently, manage various responsibilities, and track and execute various written or verbal instructions. Qualified lift truck operator must be able to load and unload a trailer as required.

Physical Demands -Occasionally lift weights up to 40 pounds - wears proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). If driving lift truck, most likely operator will be sitting in the driver seat for multiple hours.

Work Environment

In carrying out work tasks, operator will be working near machines with moving components, near moving lift trucks, may be exposed to particles in the air, will be working in a semi-loud environment, and will occasionally be exposed to working at heights and/or working outsid
