GAI is seeking an Assistant Environmental Manager with 8-10 years of experience to join our talented and energetic team. We are looking for a motivated person to join our team to build our business with sales, project management, and technical expertise. Excellent communication and organizational skills are required. Hybrid or remote arrangements will be considered. This position will either manage such projects or work under the direction of a Project Manager. This position will also coordinate with clients and regulatory agencies, assist in the delivery of projects from inception to completion, and ensure that they are delivered on time, on budget, and of high quality.

The ideal candidate will have experience specializing in environmental contamination management and environmental compliance. The primary work responsibility will be to provide task leadership and oversight of contaminant management projects, including soil and groundwater testing and analysis, oversee the proper management and disposal of electrical oil-filled equipment and universal waste, technical report preparation and documentation, permitting, project management and coordination, scheduling, budgeting, invoicing, and quality control reviews.

Job Duties:



  • This role will include 30% field-based work and 70% office-based work.
  • Develops client relationships and supports business development activities to obtain new work, primarily from existing clients as directed.
  • Soil and groundwater investigation.
  • Water quality sampling and analysis.
  • Soil sampling and analysis.
  • Environmental permitting.
  • Phase I and II Environmental Site Assessments.
  • Provides technical services including environmental field studies for wetland and stream delineations, endangered species, and invasive species; sediment and erosion control planning; environmental permitting (local, state, and federal); and construction inspection and erosion control monitoring.
  • Provides project or task management for all aspects of the project life cycle: planning, scope definition, execution, and delivery.
  • Tracks progress toward milestones, budgetary guidelines, or other performance indicators.
  • Selects, negotiates with, and oversees project activities of external subconsultants or vendors.
  • May supervise staff and provide leadership, coaching, and/or mentoring to direct reports or task managers as appropriate.
  • Performs work under minimal supervision. Handles complex issues and problems and refers complex issues to higher-level staff.
  • Weekly travel to varied job locations will be common. Overnight stays are likely. Travel is expected to be necessary throughout the year and will encounter yearly seasonal conditions typical of the Upper-Midwest region. Driving outside of daylight hours to be expected. Travel to work sites up to 30% but varies based on evolving client needs.


Travel Requirement



  • 30%, It is anticipated that the frequency of travel will be greater during the growing season and will likely average 35-40%. Travel nationally may be required.

Minimum Years of Experience



  • 8 - 10+ Years of Experience


Education



  • Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Sciences orsimilar field of study


Certification/Licensure



  • Driver's License required
  • Relevant professional license or certification in an applicable technical discipline is required (PE, PLS, PG, RLA, etc.)
  • Preferred technical certifications include:
  • 40-hour Hazardous Site Safety Training 29 CFR 1910.120
  • Wetland Delineation Training Course
  • Certified Soil Erosion Inspector
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification


Technical Responsibilities

  • Guidance and oversight from Project Managers and/or experts in specific environmental areas.
  • Begins or continues to manage staff with a focus onsupporting career path andtechnical growth.
  • Monitoring employee performance.
  • Making sure that processes and procedures are in compliance with the overall organization's guidelines.
  • Inspiring and encouraging employees to perform their best.
  • Assigning and supervising specific work tasks.
  • Allocating resources within a team, department, group, or division.
  • Reporting issues and performance to top-level management.
  • Well-being fostering: Prioritizing mental health, work-life integration and enhances retention.
  • Manager shapes day-to-day workplace experiences.


Communication Skills



  • Possess effective oral and written communication skills; interacts well with other staff; clients Project Managers andvarious Department Managerial Staff, especially with client communications; interact with clients at regular project meetings.
