Job Description
  • Responsible for student personnel, including the discipline system, behavior adjustment, and management of significant incidents, in accordance with government and management directives.
  • Provides overall supervision of student personnel through effective planning, staffing, and student involvement in establishing Center policies and procedures.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of new or revised policies and procedures affecting student discipline, and coordinates with other departments to achieve the overall objectives of the Center.
  • Periodically reviews and audits all assigned areas to verify contractual compliance and effectiveness in providing services to students.
  • Encourages students for their performance and good behavior.
  • Coordinates activities to motivate and encourage students as part of the student discipline and good behavior system.
  • Prepares the corresponding reports.
  • Determines and administers disciplinary measures for students who have violated rules and regulations; advises students when their behavior is inappropriate inside or outside the Center.
  • Ensures that staff are properly trained in the use of the Behavior Management System.
  • Provides effective communication to inform staff about actions taken with students.
  • Requests authorization to convene the Fact-Finding Board (FFB) in accordance with the Policy and Requirements Manual and Center policies.
  • Conducts timely investigations into student misconduct and documents all relevant information.
  • Imposes appropriate sanctions in accordance with the approved Student Handbook and Department of Labor policies.
  • Establish a process to determine whether sanctions have been completed.
  • Establish a communication network to inform students, staff, and management about the results of daily activities.
  • Submit all reports accurately and within the established deadlines.
  • Files important incidents within the established time frame and follows up and reports on them.
  • Communicates regularly with parents, guardians, and courts to assist with behavioral issues or to notify and explain a student's expulsion from the Center due to zero tolerance policy, disruptive behavior, or safety reasons.
  • Maintains a record of communications with parents, guardians, and courts regarding student behavior.
  • Meets with new students to provide training on the behavior management system and zero-tolerance policies.
  • Provides regular training to participants in investigation committees.
  • Trains staff and students to participate in investigation committees.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • A four-year college degree is preferred, but an associate's degree and one year of work experience in juvenile justice or social services will be accepted.
  • Five years of experience may be considered in lieu of a degree if all other job requirements are met.
  • A valid state driver's license and experience in data collection and research are required, as well as a good driving record.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Strong verbal and written skills.
  • The position requires the ability to communicate with internal and external contacts in a professional manner.
  • Possess CPR/first aid certification.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Be organized and able to multitask.
  • Possess certification under Puerto Rico Law 300.
  • Be knowledgeable and fluent in Spanish and English, both spoken and written.
  • Possess technical skills such as knowledge of Microsoft Office systems and programs.
