Overview

Orrick currently has an excellent opportunity for a Managing Attorney in the Washington, DC office with consideration given for 100% remote US locations.

Under the supervision of the Director of the Court Services Department, the DC Managing Attorney will primarily be responsible for advising case teams on federal and state court procedure and practice, calculating procedural deadlines in Compulaw and supervising others doing the same, and providing litigation related support to case teams.


Responsibilities

  • Advise attorneys on a wide range of procedural issues based on technical knowledge of court rules and experience.
  • Review drafts of filings for compliance with court rules and judge specific requirements.
  • Handle electronic filing of documents in state and federal courts.
  • Perform detailed analysis and legal research on court rules, procedure, and case histories, as needed, using Westlaw, Lexis, Bloomberg Law, and similar resources.
  • Calendar the entry of litigation events in Compulaw based on court notifications, court rules, and attorney communications and review and supervise the entry of such deadlines by the DC Managing Clerk. Run reports in Compulaw and MyView.
  • Act as liaison between attorneys and court personnel.
  • Supervise the tracking of state and federal cases of interest through various applications.
  • Conduct searches for sample court filings, court records and dockets.
  • Supervise attorney registration for electronic filings and Pacer and troubleshoot account issues.
  • Coordinate service of process and subpoenas; order certificates of good standing, transcripts and other litigation documents, as needed, and supervise the same.

Qualifications

  • J.D. required.
  • Minimum of 4 years prior related experience as a litigator or in a Managing Attorney's Office or similar department. There is a preference for candidates with a state or federal court clerkship.
  • Extensive knowledge of federal and state civil, criminal, and appellate court procedure and rules. There is a preference for candidates with experience in the courts in the District of Columbia, Illinois, Maryland and Virginia.
  • Proficiency with Aderant-Compulaw, CourtAlert or compatible database;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and superb attention to detail.
  • Possess excellent customer service skills and work well within a team.
  • Ability to effectively interact with all levels of personnel.
  • Experience supervising others and managing work flow in a department with a high volume of emails and requests.
  • Experience with e-filing documents and knowledge of e-filing platforms such as CM/ECF, TrueFiling, and Tyler Technologies.
  • Overtime may be required.

Compensation and Benefits

The expected salary range for this position is:

  • New York City, Silicon Valley, and San Francisco $200,000 - $300,000
  • Washington DC, Los Angeles, Orange County, Santa Monica, Sacramento, Boston, and Seattle $200,000 - $293,000
  • All Other US Locations $184,000 - $275,000

This compensation and benefits information is based on the Orrick's estimate as of the date of publication and may be modified in the future. The level of pay within the range will depend on a variety of job-related factors that may include, but not limited to, qualifications, relevant experience or education, particular skills or expertise, geography. Other compensation may include an annual discretionary merit bonus, which would be determined by Firm and individual performance.
