The Outage Manager reports to the Manager - Outage and Contractor Management and is the key contributor in the functional area of outage strategic planning and execution. Responsible for governance and oversight of plant outage process/products such as the development of outage scope and detailed plans/schedules for planned outages while ensuring shutdown safety and procedure adherence. Conducts reviews on the implementation of the outage programs and processes including observations made during the execution of the outage. Responsibilities are not limited to outage management but also crosses all organizational boundaries working with plant departments and designated team leaders for pre-outage preparation and execution. Solicits best practices internally and externally to improve organizational effectiveness. Supports Manager - Outage and Contractor Management with peer team and business plan initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for governance and oversight of power plant outage process/products such as the development of detailed plans / schedules for planned outages while ensuring shutdown safety and procedure adherence. Grades site performance against established criteria.

  • Oversight is not limited to outage management but also crosses all organizational boundaries working with power plant departments and designated team leaders for pre-outage preparation and execution. Provides corporate support for the outage plan and schedule preparation and execution.

  • Conducts reviews on the implementation of the outage programs and processes including observations made during the execution of the outage. Provides insight through reporting of site performance to corporate leadership as required. Leads various teams in corporate challenges on scope determination and scope control for the upcoming unit outage by reviewing commitments, long range plan, modification/project schedules, preventive maintenance backlogs, schedule maintenance and quality, and priorities.

  • Solicits best practices internally and externally to improve organizational effectiveness. Ensure corporate outage procedures are maintained current. Manages outage lessons learned, industry meetings and working groups as needed.

  • Oversight to ensure the power plants' outage plans and schedules are executed in accordance with technical specification compliance while maintaining shutdown safety consistent with procedures, processes and goals.

  • Direct and coordinate the detailed schedule and outage plan development for the upcoming unit outages to ensure technical specification compliance and maintain shutdown safety in a manner consistent with procedures, processes, and goals.

  • Participate and provide oversight of schedule reviews.

  • Provide direction to all planners, schedulers, and specialized teams for the outage plan and schedule preparation and execution.

  • Develop and maintain forced and maintenance outage plans.

  • Support development of presentation material as needed; conduct critiques for the capture of lessons learned; conduct gap analysis and updates to the plant outage templates.

  • Champions a corporate culture that emphasizes transparency, integrity, safety, environmental responsibility, employee development, sense of belonging, customer service, and operational excellence.

Qualifications

Required Education, Skills & Experience

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent

  • Bachelor's Degree in related field preferred

  • 10+ years of related experience

  • 5+ years leadership experience preferred

  • Experience directing operations activities or planning / scheduling maintenance resources in at least 2 outages.

  • Personal computer (PC) knowledge

  • Intradepartmental communication skills (verbal and written)

  • Experience with scheduling software

  • Critical Path scheduling Method knowledge

  • Scheduling Tool knowledge

  • Ability to provide oversight of schedulers and maintenance schedulers in progress tracking and schedule development

  • This level is rarely used and is based only on availability in approved org design/structure; strict adherence is required.

  • Progression to this level is strictly restricted on the basis of critical individual capabilities and business requirements; must be supported by market survey data
