The Opportunity:

Sypris Technologies is looking for a motivated Buyer/Planner I to join our procurement team. This role is a foundational step for an early-career professional eager to master the complexities of supply chain, procurement, and lean manufacturing. You won't just be "buying"-you'll be the bridge between our suppliers and our production floor, ensuring we have the right materials at the right time to keep our operations moving.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Procurement & PO Management: Execute and manage purchase orders for productions materials, ensuring accuracy in pricing, quantities, and specifications.
  • Supplier Relations: Act as the primary point of contact for vendors; negotiate lead times, resolve delivery discrepancies, and provide status updates to leadership.
  • Expediting & Tracking: Proactively track open Pos and mitigate risks for late shipments to prevent production downtime.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Production, Planning, and Warehouse teams to synchronize material flow with the master production schedule.
  • Data Integrity: Maintain "clean" data within the ERP system (Plex), ensuring supplier records, lead times, and pricing stay current.
  • Operational Support: Assist in the creation and organization of production Job Packets and provide backup support for Senior Buyers and MRO procurement as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support Company goals.

Required Skills:

  • Detail- Oriented Mindset: You catch small errors in a PO before they become big problems on the production floor.
  • Communication: Ability to be firm but professional with vendors and clear and concise with internal stakeholders.
  • Tech Savvy: Comfortable navigating ERP systems and proficient in Microsoft Excel (ability to sort, filter, and analyze data sets).
  • Problem- Solving: A "can-do" attitude when faced with supply chain bottlenecks or shipping delays.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in supply chain, Business, Operations, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Experience: Previous internships or 1+ year of experience in a manufacturing or logistics environment.
  • System Knowledge: Exposure to Plex ERP or similar MRP systems.
  • Lean Thinking: A basic understanding of Lean Principles (5S, Kaizen) and Supply Chain KPIs (On-Time Delivery, Cycle Time).

The Ideal Candidate:

You are a high-energy professional who is curious by nature. You don't just want to enter data; you

want to understand how a part moves from a raw material to a finished product. You are dependable,

highly organized and thrive in a fast-paced environment where priorities can shift quickly.

Work Environment:

While performing the essential functions of this job, the employee is subject to the following conditions (reasonable accommodation is available upon request):

  • Mechanical/ Hazardous: Frequent or occasional work near moving mechanical parts; occasional exposure to fumes or airborne particles.
  • Ambient Noise: The environment generally maintains a moderate noise level.
