Assist in the fabrication of parts for Wabash trailers at the direction of a Metal Fab Coordinator or Supervisor.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Below are examples of the type of duties you could be responsible for:



  • Perform a variety of semi-skilled manual duties requiring knowledge of techniques, tools, equipment and safety precautions.
  • Operates lasers, turrets, presses, shears, and other equipment as assigned including set up and PM maintenance.
  • Primary job functions require exercising independent judgement.
  • Performs work at a quality level consistent with Wabash standard practice. Supervised by supervisor, area manager, or department head.
  • Must be able to understand blueprints.
  • Adheres to the general safety plan.
  • Assist in the manufacture of metal parts.
  • Able to work in adverse climate conditions (hot, cold, dark, loud, etc.).
  • Report defects and the need for repairs to production and maintenance leadership.
  • Wear all required PPE such as shoes, gloves, sleeves, safety glasses, face shields, respirators, hearing protection, heat-shielding hoods, jackets, fall protection, etc.
  • Demonstrate and embrace all the Wabash Values and Leadership Principles in daily activities.
  • Able to flex work schedule depending on the needs of the overall production team. Complete assigned duties in accordance with safety policies and practices. Demonstrate the highest regard for individual safety, the safety of co-workers, and the safe use of the equipment in the workplace.

Qualifications:



  • High school degree or G.E.D. equivalent is required Basic reading/writing and verbal skills.
  • General computer skills (Excel and Word)
  • Strong math skills
  • Ability to read and use tape measure, calipers, and gauging equipment.
  • Ability to read and follow engineering drawings.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Able to exercise independent judgment when performing responsibilities.
  • Perform work at a quality level that meets or exceeds the Wabash and ISO standards.
  • Ensure that there is a Winning Together mentality to eliminate the "shift versus shift" mentality.
  • Shares information with others to help them perform their responsibilities safely and efficiently.
  • Copes successfully with unexpected events throughout the day
  • Able to work independently, as well as collectively, with other Techs, operators, maintenance, and engineers.

  • High standards for minimal unplanned absences (critical position to daily operational success)
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.


Knowledge, Training, Skills and/or Experience:

The work requires climbing of over six (6) feet in height using a ladder or scaffolding and to bend and stoop to reach the underside of the tanks. Physical requirements include bending, stooping, and climbing for approximately 30% of the shift and standing for approximately 70% of the shift. Working conditions may consist of loud noise, welding, paint fumes, and grinding dust.

Physical Demands:

As a metal fabricator, you must be able to stand, walk, lean, push, climb, sit, bend, kneel, stoop, and operate tools or controls throughout the entire shift. Full range of motion in the arms and hands is essential for this role. Metal fabricators must be capable of lift-up to 50 pounds and working in environments that may require climbing ladders or stairs. The role also involves exposure to adverse conditions, including extreme temperatures (hot or cold), low lighting, loud noise, confined spaces, and extended periods of kneeling or bending.
