The University of Arizona Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics seek candidates to fill a fiscal (12-month) position as a tenure-eligible or tenured Assistant/Associate Professor of Biostatistics. We seek candidates with backgrounds in statistical theory and methods and AI/ML, with demonstrated expertise in the development of new methods as well as a record of collaborative research. We are particularly interested in applicants with demonstrated AI/ML interests in health science. Candidates with experience in foundational model development are encouraged to apply. A successful candidate's research should complement current areas of strengths in the Biostatistics Program, as well as the broader college and university. The successful candidate is expected to develop and/or teach the equivalent of 3 courses per year, including graduate-level courses and/or undergraduate courses, mentor graduate students, and contribute to the research and service missions of the college. In addition, successful candidates will collaborate with the Arizona Institute for AI and Society, a University of Arizona wide strategy for national leadership positioning in responsible AI, Machine Learning and Data Science. The MEZCOPH is currently the only nationally accredited college of public health in the state of Arizona. | Duties & Responsibilities |
- Develop and teach 3 biostatistics courses per year.
- Mentor Masters and Doctoral students in the biostatistics program.
- Participate in intramural, extramural and outreach service.
- Develop collaborations with researchers in other departments and colleges across the University of Arizona.
- Contribute to the development and expansion of AI for Public Health Initiative across teaching, training and research.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
- Knowledge of teaching biostatistics methods courses including methods such as causal inference and AI/ML (e.g. deep learning, language models and responsible AI).

| Notice of Availability of the Annual Security and Fire Safety Report |
In compliance with the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (Clery Act), each year the University of Arizona releases an Annual Security Report (ASR) for each of the University's campuses.Thesereports disclose information including Clery crime statistics for the previous three calendar years and policies, procedures, and programs the University uses to keep students and employees safe, including how to report crimes or other emergencies and resources for crime victims. As a campus with residential housing facilities, the Main Campus ASR also includes a combined Annual Fire Safety report with information on fire statistics and fire safety systems, policies, and procedures.
