Job Summary

IPAC is a division of Caltech focusing on astrophysical research. We house and maintain some of the largest astrophysical data archives in the world, containing data from ground-, air-, and space-based telescopes.

The ISG Operations team is responsible for delivering a consistent, secure, and high-quality technology experience for staff and visitors. To achieve this, the team manages a wide range of technical duties, including:

  • Staff Computing: Managing and supporting all computing equipment across Windows and macOS environments, ensuring secure configuration, reliable performance, and full lifecycle management from deployment to retirement.
  • IoT Infrastructure: Administering and maintaining public-facing IoT devices, including setup, monitoring, firmware updates, and network connectivity for stable and secure operations.
  • Audio-Visual (AV) Systems: Overseeing AV systems across conference rooms, meeting spaces, and public areas, including the installation, configuration, troubleshooting, and preventative maintenance of displays, conferencing platforms, microphones, and control systems.
  • Live Event Support: Providing live technical and AV support for meetings, conferences, and special events to ensure seamless presentations and reliable hybrid collaboration.
  • Asset Management: Maintaining accurate asset tracking, documentation, and user support while collaborating effectively with internal teams.

We would like to hire an occasional summer hire to assist with many of the Operations Team's daily tasks. This is an on-site position in Pasadena, California.

Basic Qualifications

If you have the following in your background, then we want to hear about your interest in joining our team:

  • Experience with scripting and programming languages.
  • macOS and Windows 11 skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Beyond these basic qualifications, there is a set of skills and experiences that will add to your ability to contribute to the roles and responsibilities of an Information Systems Generalist. The following might give you a head start here, but even if these do not describe you or your experience, we would still like to hear from you:

  • Experiences with audio-visual equipment.
  • Experiences using Microsoft Teams and Zoom meetings.
  • Ability to work both with a team and individually.
  • Good communication skills.

Hiring Range

$22.50 - $23.50 per hour

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.
