Job Summary

Custodian/Sr. Custodian

This position will perform a variety of tasks included but not limited to cleaning, housekeeping and custodial duties in a hospital, clinic, hotel, or college campus environment. May be required to clean buildings, offices, patient rooms, various campus facilities, restrooms, lounges, dormitories, classrooms, auditoriums, sports facilities, hallways, exterior/other designated areas, and/or general maintenance throughout the UC Davis Campus, working independently or as part of a team ensuring building security. May be required to operate auto scrubbers, wet vacuums, upholstery shampoo machines, carpet extractors and buffers to maintain floors and furniture.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 6 months experience performing custodial work
  • Knowledge of basic materials and equipment used in custodial work
  • Knowledge of cleaning solvents, soaps, waxes, and other related chemicals used in custodial work
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Experience with floor care equipment; auto scrubber, waxer, buffer etc (Sr. Custodian)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to follow all health and safety policies/procedures.
  • Ability to learn and practice all security procedures related to unlocking, locking, and securing of buildings and keys.
  • Ability to resolve customers' concerns in a timely manner

Department Description

UC Davis, Temporary Employment Services (TES) provides temporary staffing to UC Davis Campus and UC Davis Health in Sacramento. Titles and job location will vary depending upon the functions associated with the assignments. TES Custodians will perform a variety of tasks included but not limited to cleaning, housekeeping and custodial duties in a hospital, clinic, hotel or college campus environment. May be required to clean buildings, offices, patient rooms, various campus facilities, restrooms, lounges, dormitories, classrooms, auditoriums, sports facilities, hallways, exterior/other designated areas, and/or general maintenance throughout the UC Davis Campus, working independently or as part of a team ensuring building security.

Physical Demands

  • Lift materials weighing up to 50 lbs
  • May work at heights up to 10 feet with a ladder

Work Environment

  • Must be available to work variable shifts: days/hours (weekends, holidays, overtime, etc.) and float to other units/areas/buildings.
  • May work alone in buildings; in isolated areas; travel from building to building at night; and /or in a building with heavy traffic.
  • May work with or be exposed to very sick patients and hazardous wastes (e.g., blood, body fluids, biohazard, pharmacy waste, chemo waste, needles and other sharp waste)
  • May work in areas where hazardous materials are present.
  • A valid CA Driver's License may be required.
  • This position may require participating in the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Pull Notice System.
  • May be required to wear uniform and/or protective clothing and/or gear.
  • Personally responsible for following safety procedures and guidelines.

Special Requirements

  • This position is a critical position and may be subject to a background check and drug screen. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of background investigation including criminal history, identity checks and drug screen.
  • As a condition of employment, you will be required to comply with the University of California Policy on Vaccination Programs, as may be amended or revised from time to time. Federal, state, or local public health directives may impose additional requirements.
