What to Expect
We are seeking a skilled Cell Materials Engineering Technician to join our cross-functional Cell Engineering Team at Tesla. This role focuses on supporting battery materials research and development through chemical analysis, materials characterization, and various engineering projects. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with engineers to prepare samples, operate analytical instruments, build and test coin cells, and maintain accurate data records, contributing to the advancement of Tesla's cutting-edge battery technology.

What You'll Do
  • Conduct physical and chemical property measurements of cell active materials and report data
  • Build two-electrode and three-electrode coin cells and pouch cells to evaluate materials' electrochemical performance
  • Maintain accurate and organized records of dissections and cell builds in a timely manner
  • Assist with manual lab tasks, including cleaning cell parts, organizing lab benches and supplies, and performing general equipment maintenance
  • Communicate issues effectively and collaborate with engineers to identify solutions
  • Follow safety protocols while handling hazardous chemicals and operating lab equipment

What You'll Bring
  • Degree in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or equivalent experience
  • Above-average manual dexterity and visual acuity for delicate assembly tasks
  • Ability to follow standard operating procedures with high accuracy and repeatability
  • Working knowledge of Windows and MS Office
  • Strong communication skills and high attention to detail
  • Experience working with hazardous chemicals
  • Experience with Li-ion battery active materials, glove boxes, coin cell assembly, or battery cyclers is preferred

    Expected Compensation
    $24.40 - $50.40/hour + cash and stock awards + benefits

    Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
