Job Summary

Information Technology Services (ITS) at the MCCCD is looking for a technically proficient and strategic IT Manager to meet the technology needs of a campus community. The IT Manager serves as a customer-focused service leader providing direct leadership and operational oversight of core end-user technology services, including desktop support, help desk operations, audiovisual (A/V) and media services, and computer lab environments. These service domains are foundational to the role and are managed to ensure consistency, reliability, and a high-quality user experience for students, faculty, and staff.

Under the direction of the Director of IT Operations in ITS with a dotted-line relationship to campus leadership, the IT Manager provides structured support and is a communication channel to ensure ongoing alignment with college operational priorities, administrative needs, and service expectations. Success in this role depends on transparency, coordination, and shared accountability while preserving District Office ITS governance, standards, and enterprise service delivery models.

Essential Functions

25% - IT Operations
  • Provides leadership, direction, and operational oversight for college technology services including desktop support, help desk operations, audiovisual (A/V) and media services, and computer lab environments, including satellite locations
  • Develops and oversees the implementation of goals, objectives, strategic initiatives, projects/programs, and integrated technologies, systems, and services
  • Ensures escalated IT issues and service concerns are addressed promptly and professionally
  • Acts as a visible and reliable point of contact for college leadership regarding service health, risks, and operational impacts

25% - Team Leadership, Coaching, and Workforce Development
  • Plans, organizes, assigns, supervises, reviews and evaluates the work of staff
  • Recommends and/or approves staff selection, directs training and the disciplinary process for assigned unit
  • Identifies training needs and opportunities; oversees and provides staff training and mentoring
  • Establishes expectations for service quality, professionalism, and accountability
  • Supports the mentoring and development of full-time staff, temporary employees, and Federal Work-Study students to build service capacity and future talent pipelines
  • Fosters a culture of continuous improvement, collaboration, and respect aligned with District values

15% - IT Service Management & Operational Maturity
  • Reinforces ITIL-aligned service practices across incident, request, problem, change, and knowledge management
  • Ensures the support team follows consistent service workflows, escalation paths, and documentation
  • Reviews service trends and recurring issues
  • Partners with District Office teams to identify root causes and improvement opportunities
  • Supports SLA alignment and transparent reporting of service performance

15% - Stakeholder Partnership & Communication
  • Partners with academic leadership and college administrators to understand academic and operational technology needs
  • Establishes a predictable communication and reporting cadence with college and District Office leadership to share service updates, risks, metric, and improvement progress
  • Translates technical topics into clear, actionable information for non-technical audiences
  • Represents District Office ITS as a collaborative and accountable service provider

10% - Resource Stewardship & Service Enablement
  • Oversees resource allocation, and lifecycle readiness related to services delivered to the college
  • Coordinates with vendors and District Office partners to ensure service quality and value
  • Collaborates with vendors and measures performance, installs corrective solutions when applicable
  • Identifies opportunities to improve efficiency, standardization, and economies of scale while remaining responsive to college needs

5% - Standards, Governance, and Risk Alignment
  • Ensures services delivered to the college align with District policies, security standards, and governance expectations
  • Partners with District Office technical and security teams to manage risk and compliance without disrupting instructional outcomes

5% - Administration
  • Leads and/or participates in college and District meetings, committees, and councils
  • Performs related duties as assigned


Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree from a regionally accredited institution in information technology or directly related field and five (5) years of professional experience in an area related to assignment, which includes two years of supervisory experience.

OR

An equivalent combination of the conferred degree, education, certification and directly related full-time work experience as described above sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation, may be considered.

Desired Qualifications
  1. Experience managing or coordinating IT services delivered from a centralized or shared-services organization to customer groups or campuses
  2. Experience with customer relationship management and collaboration with faculty, administrators, and executive leadership
  3. Experience with enterprise endpoint, productivity, and collaboration platforms commonly used in higher education environments
  4. Experience maintaining system availability and reliability
  5. Experience applying ITIL or ITSM practices in an operational setting
  6. Experience leading and developing diverse technical and customer support teams
  7. One year of full-time relevant MCCCD experience during the previous two years


Special Working Conditions

This position is a Districtwide resource that will have regional responsibility throughout Mesa, Tempe, Phoenix.

Possession of a valid State of Arizona Class D Driver's License may be required for some assignments; must meet minimum standards regarding driving: https://district.maricopa.edu/administrative-regulations/4-auxiliary-services/4-14

This role requires a physical presence on campus.

May be required to work evenings and weekends.

May be required to sit for a prolonged period of time; viewing a computer monitor.
