Summary:PGY1 residency programs build upon Doctor ofPharmacy (PharmD) education and outcomes to develop pharmacist practitionerswith knowledge, skills, and abilities as defined in the educational competencyareas, goals, and objectives. Residents who successfully complete PGY1residency programs will be skilled in diverse patient care, practicemanagement, leadership, and education, and be prepared to provide patient care,seek board certification in pharmacotherapy (i.e., BCPS), and pursue advancededucation and training opportunities including postgraduate year two (PGY2)residencies.

PGY2 residency programs build upon Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) education and PGY1 pharmacy residency training to develop pharmacist practitioners with knowledge, skills, and abilities as defined in the educational competency areas, goals, and objectives for advanced practice areas. Residents who successfully complete PGY2 residency programs are prepared for advanced patient care or other specialized positions, and board certification in the advanced practice area, if available.

Responsibilities:
1. Completion of a major residency project and medication use evaluation (MUE). Each resident will submit an abstract to present a poster at the Vizient Pharmacy Network Meeting Resident Poster Session. Projects will be presented as platform presentations at a Spring research conference.
2. Participate in and lead patient care rounds.
3. Meet objectives of each rotation.
4. Develop goals of residency program with Residency Program Director. Develop rotation goals with rotation preceptors.
5. Complete assignments by the end of each rotation.
6. Preparing a written self-evaluation of each rotation at its conclusion that includes accomplishment of objectives, experiences gained, and evaluation of the rotation site and preceptor with recommendations for improvement.
7. Provide required presentations throughout the residency, including journal club presentations, platform presentations at residency conferences, inservices to other healthcare providers, and continuing education presentations.

Education Requirements:
* PharmD (from an accredited College of Pharmacy),
Licensure/Certification Requirements:
* ACLS or BLS to be obtained within 90 days of employment, as applicable per program.
* ACLS and BLS required for acute care programs.
* BLS required for community programs.
* Active pharmacist licensure with the NC Board of Pharmacy required within 120 days of employment. If not licensed as a pharmacist in another state, Pharmacy Intern license with the NC Board of Pharmacy required while awaiting pharmacist licensure exams.
Professional Experience Requirements:
* With no PharmD, equivalent experience and eligibility for licensure in North Carolina.
