Job/Department Summary: The Office of Government Relations works with policy decision-makers at the local, state, and national levels to uphold the hospital's mission of providing exceptional clinical care, research, and training for pediatric providers. We work with our partners within the legislature and throughout the community to develop and advocate for policy solutions to keep young people safe and healthy.
The Undergrad Internship will run from September 2026 to May 2027. We are unable to accommodate interns for a single semester.
The internship schedule will be 16 hours per week during normal business hours, Monday-Thursday. This internship is hybrid, with the
requirement for our interns to be in-person at least one day a week (min of 5 hours). Tuesday is our all-staff day, so it is highly preferred that the intern work in-person on that day.
Responsibilities:
- Supporting the Government Relations team to advance hospital legislative priorities, through direct advocacy with legislators, grassroots organizing, and leading high-impact projects to advance bills related to pediatric healthcare access including Medicaid, social determinants of health and health related social needs, racial equity and social justice, behavioral health, and pediatric research
- Managing and assisting with legislative and budget priority tracking and analysis
- Supporting execution of advocacy events with support from the team ranging in size from 25 - 300+ participants
- Contributing, planning, and executing tours and events designed to educate government officials and community leaders about the Hospital
- Creating infographics for advocacy initiatives and digital communications
- Preparing voter registration and voter education materials
- Attending relevant coalition, legislative, and community meetings, taking notes and maintaining records as requested
- Monitoring departmental databases
- Collaborating with team members to facilitate child health advocacy trainings for hospital staff, volunteers, and patient families
- Researching and writing policy briefings for hospital leaders and elected officials
- Providing minimal administrative support to Government Relations team members, such as tracking advocacy efforts and scheduling meetings with elected officials
- Creating visually appealing infographics for digital media advocacy
Education:
- Current enrollment in an undergraduate program with at least junior standing for the 2025-2026 academic year or graduated with an associate's degree within the last 2 years is required
- Demonstrated interest in, and passion for, child health policy, equity, and legislative advocacy
- Students pursuing studies in the fields listed below have historically benefited from this opportunity, but students from other disciplines are strongly encouraged to apply as well. (Public Health, Political Science, Communications, Public Policy, Macro Social Work Practice )

The posted pay range is Boston Children's reasonable and good-faith expectation for this pay at the time of posting. Any base pay offer provided depends on skills, experience, education, certifications, and a variety of other job-related factors.
