Job Summary
#CA-DS This position is 100% Remote and will be involved with various grants, contracts, and outreach initiatives, and provide support to the Associate Dean for Research. This position is a senior staff leader within the school's research enterprise, providing strategic oversight and operational leadership of large/complex research studies, while advancing school-wide research capacity and faculty success. The incumbent serves as Project Director for complex research studies (site management, protocol development, staffing oversight, quality and compliance) and as a catalyst for faculty grant development and research infrastructure building. The role strengthens longterm institutional impact by serving as a bridge among faculty, research staff, community partners, and administrative units, ensuring a collaborative and highperforming research environment. This career position integrates the domains of research operations, scientific development, and strategic program growth to expand the school's funded research portfolio and public impact. - Advanced degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
- Experience working on a campus, medical center, or other university setting and various external venues
- Experience managing assigned grants or portfolio of grants to allocate funding for research projects that best meet strategic goals
- Demonstrated experience leading complex, multisite research studies as a Project Director or equivalent, including protocol development, staffing oversight, and regulatory management.
- Experience providing faculty grant development support, including coordination of internal scientific peer review and strategic proposal development.
- Multisite project leadership experience for federally funded studies (e.g., PARADE; prospective studies such as CONNECTR and CARE ERA), including recruitment, enrollment, data collection, monitoring, and compliance.
- Experience in the supervision and mentorship of research staff, including study coordinators and indirect oversight of research assistants and consultants.
- Experience developing and implementing research infrastructure (internal peer-review systems, SOPs/templates, dashboards, communication workflows) to improve proposal quality and operational consistency.
- Experience coordinating community and stakeholder engagement activities, including partnerships with community organizations, national networks, subcontractors, and consultants.
- Experience working with older adults, including individuals experiencing memory loss or cognitive impairment, and contributing training for research staff supporting ADRD-related studies.
- Skills to develop, execute and provide oversight for research and educational material development (e.g., webinars) and dissemination strategies/plans.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to communicate both verbally and in writing; employ active listening, critical thinking, persuasiveness, advising and counseling skills.
- Excellent independent decision-making skills to work with ambiguities where clear guidelines are not present.
- Demonstrated skills to identify issues, provide recommendations referrals, and seek resources to develop solutions.
- Knowledge of and experience to interpret and advise faculty and project teams on grant policies and regulatory requirements.
- Skills to interact tactfully and diplomatically with a diverse group of people including faculty, staff and students.
- Solid knowledge of Microsoft Word and research-specific, project management, and analytic (qualitative and/or qualitative) computer application programs.
- Skills to exercises judgment within defined procedures and policies to determine appropriate action.
- Advanced organizational skills.
- Ability to prioritize and manage personal tasks and see primary responsibilities through inception to completion on schedule.
- Demonstrated skills to develop programmatic partnerships with a variety of academic and administrative departments throughout the Sacramento and Davis campuses and regional area.
- Ability to use discretion and maintain all confidentiality of grant and research information and materials.
Preferred Qualifications
- General knowledge of the academic mission of the School of Nursing.
- Ability to operationalize scientific aims into detailed study workflows, timelines, risk registers, and implementation plans.
- Advanced scientific writing and coordination skills for manuscripts, grant narratives, and presentations across multiinstitution teams.
- Proven ability to design, implement, and sustain research infrastructure (peer review processes, SOPs/templates, dashboards, research communications).
- Ability to generate and interpret datainformed dashboards to guide strategic decisionmaking. Expertise in stakeholder and partnership management across community organizations, national networks, and crosscampus collaborators.
- Knowledge of compliance and risk management for multisite studies, including human subjects protections and sponsor/University policy.
- Demonstrated capacity to train research staff and translate domain expertise in aging, brain health, and ADRD into practical guidance for study teams.
