Job Summary
The IT Support Specialist provides front-line technical support for a research-focused environment, supporting end users, endpoint devices, and on-site technology needs. This role delivers responsive, professional assistance to faculty researchers, and staff across administrative and research units.
Minimum Education and Experience
Associate's degree or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be considered.
Preferred Education and Experience

  • Associate degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field.
  • Additional coursework in audio/visual systems, event technology, or customer support or relevant certifications are preferred.


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Strong critical reasoning and ability to troubleshoot complex issues.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently in on-site support situations.

Other Qualifications
To the extent this position requires the holder to research, work on, or have access to critical infrastructure as defined in Section 117.001(2) of the Texas Business and Commerce Code, the ability to maintain the security or integrity of the critical infrastructure is a minimum qualification to be hired and to continue to be employed in the position.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide desktop and end-user support for standard hardware, operating systems (Windows, Mac, and Linux), software, peripherals, and access issues.
  • Configure, deploy, and troubleshoot endpoint devices in accordance with established standards.
  • Assist with inventory tracking and basic IT asset lifecycle management.
  • Perform initial troubleshooting for application and infrastructure issues and escalate as needed.
  • Other Research IT supporting projects and activities as required.


On-Site Support

  • Provide presentation-ready, on-site media technology support for research showcases, demonstrations, and events.
  • Set up, test, and troubleshoot displays, presentation systems, conferencing tools, and A/V equipment.
  • Support presenters in live, time-sensitive, and high-visibility settings.
  • Support Office of Research staff, research centers, core facilities, and researchers campus-wide, as requested.
  • Coordinate with federated IT groups and central IT partners.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions
To support the needs of the role, ability to:

  • lift, lower, carry, push, or pull up to forty (40) pounds.
  • bend, kneel, reach, and work under desks or behind equipment racks while installing, configuring, or troubleshooting equipment.
  • sit or stand at will for extended periods frequently throughout the workday.
  • perform frequent to constant repetitive keyboarding functions to complete job tasks.
  • use hands and fingers for device setup, cabling, and other fine motor tasks.
  • distinguish colors, indicators, and on-screen information necessary to diagnose and resolve technical issues, visually inspect equipment and displays.

Remote Notice: After the 6 month probationary period, this role may be eligible for a hybrid (partly remote/partly in office) work schedule, subject to business need and manager approval. May be required to use personal computer and other standard office equipment. Must be located within the DFW Area and have the ability to be on campus with 24 hours of notice. A UT Dallas Remote Work Agreement will be required within 14 days after approval.
