The Opportunity with McKinstry

We are adding Project Development Engineer to our growing National Distributed Energy Resources division. You will lead and support engineering development solutions and projects, identifying viable applications of Solar PV & Energy Storage. You will identify and analyze technical solutions in existing and new commercial facilities. As a Solar Engineer, additional responsibilities include:

Communication:

  • Demonstrates regional subject matter leadership in Solar and Energy Storage by staying on the forefront of the technology and working closely with others to deploy knowledge to other departments within the company such as project development, project management, sales and estimating, etc.
  • Act as steward of McKinstry culture; communicate and influence policies and procedures.
  • Ability to communicate information and ideas clearly and concisely, in writing and verbally required.
  • Communicate with local utility representatives to assist in collection of utility rebates and incentives.

Analysis:

  • Quantify renewable energy measures primarily focused on and including on-site and off-site solar, battery energy storage.
  • Perform energy and savings calculations using modeling software, spreadsheets and utility calculation tools.
  • Generate Solar and Energy storage conceptual designs that meet client needs including layouts, designs, and written scope narratives.
  • Support other Project Engineer's and Project Developers in determining the right technical approach for evaluating complex renewable energy solutions.

Project Management:

  • Develop strategies, goals and objectives specific to project execution.

  • Coordinate with energy and design teams on solar and energy storage feasibility, basis of design and scope of work development.

  • Prepare Project Risk Reviews for Energy Calculations prior to presenting ROM or Final savings.

  • May support performance assurance team with energy analysis in Measurement and Verification reports.

  • Support construction and commissioning teams during/after construction to solve issues related to facility improvement measures performance.

  • Work closely with the Performance Assurance Specialist in developing the Measurement and Verification Process and Protocols to be used for performance validation.

  • Establish Key Performance Indicators and key factors to be used in the Measurement and Verification Phase (in conjunction with the Performance Assurance Specialist.

  • Demonstrate proficiency at writing, reviewing, and editing technical documentation.

What You Need to Succeed at McKinstry

  • (2-6+) years in solar and/or energy storage commercial industry required.
  • Bachelor's Degree in engineering, or related field required.
  • Master's degree in Renewable Energy and/or Energy specialization a plus.
  • Understanding of calculation methods including but not limited to, Helioscope, PVSyst, Energy Toolbase, CAD, PVWatts, NREL System Advisor Mode, shade calculations, soiling calculations, snow soiling calculations, battery storage modeling platforms required.
  • Working knowledge of estimating preliminary budgets for Solar and Energy Storage projects.
  • Maintain good understanding of pertinent building and energy codes including National Electric Code, International Fire Code, International Building Code.
  • Understanding of Energy Services Performance Contracting required.
  • Understanding of Power Purchase Agreements required.
  • Maintain good understanding of incentive programs and processes.
  • NABCEP registration preferred.
  • LEED AP registration a plus.
  • EIT professional designation a plus.
  • Certified Energy Manger (CEM) certification a plus.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite - Word, Excel, Outlook and Visio required; working knowledge of SharePoint preferred.

The pay range for this position is $76,320 - $122,200 per year; however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Base pay information is based on market location. A bonus may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered.
