Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent and 2 years of professional experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Four or more years of Linux systems administration experience in an academic HPC environment, including experience with Slurm.
  • Experience supporting common HPC ecosystem technologies: GPU accelerators, job schedulers (Slurm), cluster provisioning (Warewulf), containers (Apptainer, Podman), web gateways (Open OnDemand), RDMA, InfiniBand, etc.
  • Experience administering HPC or Linux systems within regulated research environments (e.g., NIH-controlled data, CMS RIF data) and working knowledge of NIST SP 800-171 security requirements.
  • Advanced degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field.


Position Summary
The Georgia Advanced Computing Resource Center ( GACRC), a division of Enterprise Information Technology Services at the University of Georgia, is seeking a skilled Linux Systems Administrator (Specialist) to join our research computing operations team. The GACRC supports the advanced computing needs of more than 500 research groups across the university.
Our core infrastructure includes two Linux-based high-performance computing ( HPC) clusters and a multi-tiered research storage environment. Working as part of a collaborative team, the Systems Administrator will contribute to the administration, monitoring, maintenance, and troubleshooting of a wide range of research computing systems-including compute clusters, parallel/clustered file systems, high-speed interconnects, GPU-accelerated systems, database servers, and a virtualized environment supporting GACRC services.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies

  • Strong Linux systems administration experience with advanced scripting or programming skills.
  • Experience supporting large Linux/Unix server environments; if not from a research computing setting, enterprise-scale systems administration experience is required.
  • Experience with network-attached or parallel storage systems, including one or more of the following: ZFS, Lustre, Ceph, or other clustered file systems.
  • Experience operating VMware environments using vSphere and ESXi.
  • Experience configuring and troubleshooting Linux authentication services and Active Directory integration (PAM, SSSD).
  • Familiarity with common network services and protocols such as DNS, DHCP, NFS, SMB/CIFS, and VPNs.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
