The Aerospace Expert Quality Engineer is PPG's lead quality engineering authority for New Product Introduction (NPI), New Product Development (NPD), and Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP). Embedded within the Design Engineering organization, this role is responsible for integrating quality, risk management, manufacturability, reliability, and customer requirements into the product development process from concept through production launch.

In this role, you will serve as a strategic partner to Design Engineering, Program Management, Manufacturing Engineering, Supply Chain, and Operations to ensure products and processes are designed for quality, manufacturability, compliance, and operational excellence. The role drives preventive quality methodologies and aerospace best practices to proactively identify and mitigate risks before product release and industrialization.

This position functions as the technical leader for APQP, PPAP, PFMEA, Design Reviews, Design Risk Management, Production Readiness, and Product Development Quality Systems in compliance with AS9100, emerging IA9100 requirements, FAA, EASA, customer requirements, and AS9145 methodologies.

You will sit onsite in our Sylmar, CA facility. You will report to the Senior Site Quality Manager.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as the Quality Engineering lead for all New Product Development (NPD) and New Product Introduction (NPI) activities

  • Leads implementation of APQP methodologies across product development and launch activities

  • Leads risk identification and mitigation activities throughout product development

  • Leads Aerospace Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) implementation and readiness activities

  • Acts as the primary quality representative within Design Engineering

  • Reviews qualification and verification plans to ensure customer, regulatory, and internal requirements are met

  • Analyze quality data, lessons learned, and performance metrics to drive continuous improvement and preventive quality initiatives

  • Influence engineering and business decisions through technical expertise, risk-based thinking, and cross-functional leadership

Qualifications

  • Only U.S. Citizens, Green Card holders, and political asylees or refugees are eligible to apply

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering required

  • Master's Degree preferred

  • Minimum 7+ years of aerospace, defense, automotive, or highly regulated manufacturing experience

  • Minimum 5+ years leading New Product Development, New Product Introduction, Product Launch, or Advanced Quality Planning initiatives

  • Demonstrated experience implementing APQP, PPAP, DFMEA, PFMEA, and production readiness methodologies

  • ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE), Six Sigma Black Belt, or equivalent certification preferred

The base salary range for this position is $140,000 to $160,000, with a possibility of an annual bonus up to 10% of base salary.
