UT Health East Texas Rehabilitation Center

UT Health East Texas Rehabilitation Center provides a large network of post-acute rehabilitation facilities to patients across the region. Over the past 25 years, our care network has grown to include a 49-bed inpatient hospital, 14 outpatient therapy clinics, 11 cardiopulmonary rehabilitation clinics and 9 Olympic fitness centers. As part of the UT Health East Texas system, UT Health Rehabilitation Center has access to some of the most advanced therapy techniques and care available - including physical, occupational and speech therapies. We also offer cardiovascular and cardiopulmonary rehabilitation - with our Tyler center boasting the first intensive cardiac rehabilitation program in East Texas. At UT Health Rehabilitation Center, you'll find a team of caregivers dedicated to helping patients restore and maintain their independence.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Director for Therapy Services is responsible for planning, supervising and coordinating activitiesfor the Departments of Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy and Inpatient Speech Therapy.He/she is responsible for assuring quality outcomes in patient therapies and achieving the goalsrelated to patient satisfaction. The Director is responsible for department compliance withregulatory standards and the development and maintenance of policies and procedures for thedepartments.


Responsibilities

  • Directs and supervises Physical, Speech, and Occupational Therapy staff, ensuring effective planning, delivery, monitoring, and evaluation of patient care in accordance with established standards.
  • Develops departmental policies, goals, objectives, and performance standards; recruits, hires, trains, orients, assigns, and objectively evaluates staff performance.
  • Oversees and participates in therapeutic evaluations and treatment delivery for all age groups, ensuring care is individualized to patient needs (e.g., age, language, sensory or cognitive impairments).
  • Ensures clear and appropriate communication with patients and caregivers tailored to developmental level, education, literacy, and cultural needs.
  • Demonstrates strong administrative and managerial competency, including budgeting, resource allocation, fiduciary oversight, and operational efficiency.
  • Promotes professional development through coaching, mentoring, performance feedback, and ongoing education, while supporting staff engagement, recognition, and retention.
  • Introduces and supports the adoption of evidence-based practices, new technologies, equipment, and research to improve quality of care.
  • Ensures continuous compliance with National Patient Safety Goals, licensing requirements, regulatory standards, and accrediting agency expectations, maintaining constant survey readiness.
  • Leads and participates in performance improvement initiatives by developing measurable goals, incorporating staff input, monitoring outcomes, and reporting results.
  • Collaborates with physicians, interdisciplinary teams, committees, and organizational leaders to improve patient satisfaction, operational effectiveness, and achievement of hospital-wide goals.

Qualifications

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in physical therapy, occupational therapy or speech therapy.
  • 2 years' experience as a licensed therapist (PT, OT, or Speech).
  • Current State of Texas License in PT, OT, or Speech.

Preferred:

  • Minimum of 1 year of management experience in inpatient setting.
