For the Charmaine McKissick-Melton Communications Fellowship (Summer 2026)

The Pratt School of Engineering is seeking a part-time Communications & Marketing Intern to support strategic communications initiatives that promote the school's research, faculty expertise, student achievements, and community impact.

Through interdisciplinary collaboration, hands-on learning, and industry partnerships, our school prepares students to lead and innovate in a rapidly changing world.

The Communications & Marketing Intern will support the development of compelling, mission-driven content that highlights impact across digital platforms. This role will contribute to storytelling efforts that align with institutional priorities and enhance the school's visibility among prospective students, alumni, faculty, partners, and donors.

Duke Engineering maintains several communications platforms that the intern will help support and elevate, including Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook, YouTube, and web-based news features.

Desired Qualifications:



  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Portfolio of creative work (video, graphics, and/or photography)
  • Strong visual and storytelling skills
  • Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects
  • Ability to meet deadlines and arrive on time for scheduled meetings (virtual or in-person)
  • Confidence in contributing creative ideas
  • Open to constructive feedback and committed to refining creative work through collaboration
  • Ability to work independently and complete tasks with minimal supervision
  • Familiarity with current social media platforms, trends, and analytics
  • Basic video editing experience (CapCut, Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, or similar software)
  • Experience with Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar design tools
  • Photography and/or videography experience a plus



Other Requirements

This position will report to the Digital & Brand Strategy team within the Strategic Marketing & Communications group at the Pratt School of Engineering. The Communications & Marketing Intern will work in close collaboration with the Senior Multimedia Producer and the Senior Integrated Marketing Communications Specialist.

The intern will assist the team with the creation and dissemination of content, which may include:




  • Social media posts highlighting research breakthroughs, student experiences, and faculty thought leadership
  • Short-form video content for digital platforms
  • Event promotion and recap content
  • Graphics and visual assets aligned with brand standards
  • Website/news story support as needed



With guidance from the Strategic Communications & Marketing team, the intern will review past projects to provide recommendations for visual content strategy focused on increasing engagement and boosting views.
